The Snap

Noticed during the Spring game that MR was using the hand slap to initiate the play.

For the last several years the center has looked back at the QB, received an okay from the QB, then reviewed the D-Line for any change and then snapped the ball. There may have been other teams but I remember ISU trying to time this delay from the QB okay to the center snap to reposition a LB to blitz the play, also OU frequently changed their DB alignment after the center looked up.

From a QB standpoint by using the hand slap, he will know the exact positioning of the defensive team. With the center initiating the snap he would have had to focus on the snap and perhaps miss the last movement of the defensive players.

However, using the hand slap to initiate the play seems to provide a tremendous positive to defensive players and should allow for timing of snap.

Looking for input and perspective, advantages/disadvantages for these methods, as well as reasons why the QB would not just use a verbal snap count that could be changed on occasion.
