THANK YOU SWEDEN

Since he doesn’t have a problem with profanity, he should have called them out for the fvckups that some of them proved themselves to be. Too many of the players violated Herb Brooks’ rule — the name on the back of the jersey was more important to them than the name on the front. Doesn’t matter how skilled or talented you are, if this is your attitude, then as a competitor you suck. If I had to make an analogy to real football, I’d say the USA outgained Sweden by about 600 yards, culminating in a 0-0 tie, and then lost on a pick six in overtime.
Without looking name five players on the team other than Megan Rapinoe. If you can’t do it it puts the lie to your comment. Rapinoe is a lightning rod, deservedly so, for criticism. She made it seem everything was about herself, which isn’t true by the way, but is a convenient proxy for politically motivated fans to hate the whole team. As Brian writes there was a generational divide on the team which had far more to do with its failures than you want to believe because you’ve decided to hate them even though you don’t know them.

Was Rapinoe the only one kneeling? (Hint: “no”). My comment is spot on.

They did before the Anthem in the Olympics during the Bronze medal game.
Not the same team, not all the same women, and none of them knelt before any of the games they played in the 2023 World Cup. Too many people are projecting their hatred of Megan Rapinoe on the entire team in 2023.

Alexi Lalas is a friend of my son, and he makes the same point Brian made in his opinion piece: the team angered a sizable portion of the American public by its antics over the years. But the antics were triggred just as much by the demand that they create a brand of winning. The demand they create a "brand" came because they won so often they became the face of women's soccer worldwide. They were expected to inspire millions of girls around the globe over and above the demand they continue to win at an unprecedented rate. Then 2023 rolled around and there were generational differences on the team as to how that inspiration was to take place.

My bad. Kneeling wasn’t the vogue thing this year. But they were still pretty eager to express contempt for the USA.

Check out this year's baseball All Star game and watch as the players line up on the basepaths as the anthem is played. How many do you think will be standing at attention. hand over heart and singing along. Hint: not many. Does that mean the baseball players hate America?

Next time you go to a football or basketball game, high school, college or pro, watch the crowd as the anthem is played. Do you suppose the ones not paying the slightest bit of attention are people that hate America?

As for the kneeling: the purpose of kneeling is supposed to be as a peaceful protest against perceived racism and police brutality. Peaceful protests are constitutionally protected. It's not like they were throwing bombs or setting the stadium on fire. They were exercising their right to peacefully protest. We may not like what they did, may not agree with their perception (I certainly don't), but at no point were the protests a claim of hatred for the country. You have been suckered into hating young women that do not deserve your hate over something for which they are not guilty.

While I understand the point you are making how many of those teams are representing the USA on the world stage? Playing on a team representing your country comes with a diff event expectation IMO.

Yep. As bearcat said. International competition makes all the difference. And sports are no place for political protests, peaceful or otherwise.

I appreciate that you understand the point I am making, I would also point out that the constitution protects peaceful protest regardless of anyone's expectations or the venue where the protest takes place. IMO it is in very poor taste for the players to protest in such a fashion and at the place they have chosen. But where should they protest, assuming they believe there is systemic racism and police brutality, where else can they make the point they want to make? They obviously hope to embarrass the country into making amends. How would they go about it if they can't do it on the biggest stage available to them? How thin skinned are we as a people if we turn to hatred because a handful of young women didn't stand at attention or put their hands over their hearts or sing along? How thin skinned are we if we hate them so much we hope they lose a game because they didn't live up to our pre-game expectations?

No thin skin. They declared us to be their enemy. Fvck ‘em. Wish they’d lost sooner.

Who on the team declared "us" to be their enemy? Which individual or group said "we" are their enemy? Were those their exact words, calling "us" their enemy? I think you are jumping to conclusions that don't hold up to scrutiny. Oh, and let me add: who is the "us" you are talking about?

Nascar ain’t not no sport.
I ain't no NASCAR follower but I think it's popularity is followed by a more intelligent demographic. Myself, I don't follow NASCAR. I'm a fisherman although I grew up on the dragstrip as my father was a drag racer, 1/4 mile stars and stripes. Early 70s. Two beautiful dodge chargers, 69 and 70 models. Some of ya are old enough to know this track. 👍

So why are you so bent out of shape over someone kneeling when a song adapted from the writings of a slaveholder is played before a sporting event?

Face of women’s soccer = tallest midget

I’d rather tune into the Ocho and watch the Mexican pickle ball championship.

That’s great! I’m glad you have pickle ball to entertain you. There are a couple a billion people world wide that find the same enjoyment in soccer. And up until their upset by Sweden the American women’s team was the standard all women in the sport aspired to.

You fine with the egotistical rapinoe Dan? Imo it shouldn't be any kind of inspiration but yet it's been nothing but a complete distraction. Might be the reason why our POTUS can't seem to wake up. 😁

How many times have you referred to Biden as Brandon since that Nascar interview?

You mean where the snowflake reporter tried to hide the fact people were saying fvck Joe Biden?
The slogan “let’s go Brandon” is hilarious due to its double meaning. Fvck Joe Biden and the media is a bunch of lying bass turds.
