I'd say get rid of the tariffs, even that crappy 10% he left on there. Causes too much chaos. Just negotiate with the 50-70 countries who said they would negotiate, fix that, then move on and forget the rest. What he needs to understand it that we can go from a scale of changes from a 2 to maybe a 4. When you try to go from a 2 to a 10 it's too much.

Our president, who is a stable genius - ask him if you doubt it! - follows the tariff advice of a guru who is as dumb as a bag of bricks. So what could go wrong? Clearly everything is going according to the long-planned scheme of the two. Sit back, America, and watch all the winning!

I would normally agree. But we've proven that lifetime politicians in neither party actually want to work to solve the problem. As such, Trump may be our one and only bite at the apple. In that case, we have to push it as much as possible.

So many Economist Experts lately yet not a single one came forward with a plan to help America's Economy and the American People. Amazing aint it!
But reeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee Muh Tariffs! FFS STFU.

Playing with an economy is not gambling. It is strategic thinking and long term planning which I guess the present govt lacks

I'm going to expand more on my thought here once I'm back from holidays in Columbia. But here is the reason this is such an important time in the US, history of the US and the world.

You listen to politicians talk and watch them act they have no acumen for planning for the future, except regarding something that has already happened. They have virtually no problem solving skills and react to the here and now issues. For instance, how in the hell is it just now becoming a problem that the dam communist chinese own massive amounts of farmland (some near military bases) and even own businesses that have stores on military bases (GNC in Ft Bragg). How can this be allowed? It is strategically a massive blunder and one which I can assure you the dam CCP wouldn't make. Congress finally seems to be acting on this.

From a greater perspective, why does china still get away with breaking nearly every rule they promised to not break when allowed to join the WTO (F you Clinton -President Bill Clinton in 2000 pushed Congress to approve the U.S.-China trade agreement and China's accession to the WTO, saying that more trade with China would advance America's economic interests: "Economically, this agreement is the equivalent of a one-way street).

What makes this time in the US and US politics so unique is that you have businessmen now pointing out the fallacies and egregious mistakes and waste of money the federal government (and I assume to a degree the state governments) commits. That is my F'in money they are wasting, as it is everyone's on this board. Businessmen always look to the future, what might, can or will cause them headwinds or even tailwinds, to their business dreams and ventures. They "anticipate" the issues before they become issues and make contingencies for such events. Politicians on the other hand are only interested in being parasitic whores who can continually get re-elected. Ask yourself if you had a business who would you want running it....Chuck Schumer or Lee Zeldin, Nancy Pelosi or Elon Musk, Lindsay Graham or Mr. Wonderful? Could go through thousands more such examples but in the end politicians suck at business which is why they always think the one panacea to solve everything is raise taxes - on businesses, utilities, earners, etc etc.

Right now I see a very bright future for the US and will make a prediction that by the end of the summer the stock market will be higher than it was when Trump was elected. Trump is a rare breed in that he has surrounded himself with people that apparently think the US is sacrosanct and their own careers are only a mechanism to make this country better, brighter and wealthier. I can't imagine what people can't like about this.

My last thought is that they gamplaned the tariffs, the ensuing losses on the stock market and then a pull back to isolate china and to get all the normal Trump haters to show their ass in both categories of how much they hate him and see him as an existential threat to their own personal fiefdoms and to use their own words and actions against them in 2026 & 2028.

An interesting article on what is called the "optimum Tariff theory"
https://www.breitbart.com/economy/2...gotten-economic-theory-behind-trumps-tariffs/

I don't understand why some people have such a hard time seeing the US as the greatest country on the planet, especially when so many countries/people around the world want to be here or mimic US.

I agree with everything except your prediction on the stock market. It will be well higher before next year's midterms but I don't think it fully recovers by this summer. That said, I compare this to Reagan. Everyone considers Reagan one of our greatest "modern" presidents. When he took over, he forced the country into a recession. And we had a recession in '81. It was the right move, and the only move, to truly correct the inflation caused by the prior administration. Trump's in the same place. Our Debt to GDP ratio is almost 150% (36T/24T) and accelerating. And that's based on the government's own rosey GDP measurements. (One's gotta question the reported GDP growth given that our government's tax receipts actually shrank.) The only way to truly solve for the Debt to GDP issue is to start shrinking the government and reducing debt, as the debt is now growing faster than the economy (3% vs 2%). But cutting the government, in the short-term, is recessionary as that government spend that's being cut is part of what's driving the overall economy. Its unfortunate, but there will be good people who lose their jobs from this. And there will be good people who suffer hardship because of this. But just like its impossible to cut out cancer without cutting out a few healthy cells too, the surgery must still happen.

Weird. Seems like this is the only administration that does long term planning. Our current president is willing to take the pain and suffering today to make tomorrow better. That feels like long-term planning to me. Prior president's historically chose easier paths, like adding $1.7T of new spend in an environment of extreme inflation.

I don't mind if a lot of products are more costly that are made here as long as they are of good quality. Most everything made in China is garbage and you spend more money having to replace the crap.

I'm sure the Walton's are in disarray right about now. Kissing Donald's ass. 🤣
I likes Bessant's interview yesterday where he said the focus of this administration to bring back Main Street. Large corporations have squeezed out mom and pop stores and it's time to allow mom and pop to make their money.
I'm sure many old-timers on here miss the day of going to a vibrant Main Street to shop or buy needed items.

The top 10% own 90% of wallstreet I heard yesterday. Sleepy joe was the worst thing for "mom and pops".

Would be interesting to have a conversation with a Hobby Lobby exec right now. Can't imagine how much stuff they sell that's made in China. Curious if this will have any impact on the over 2,500 employees that work in the Oklahoma City area.

I’ve wondered the same thing. Also, Harbor Freight.

Hanson is the man. He can literally make liberals heads explode in 5-minutes if they can listen that long.

You make a great point. I talked with my financial advisor yesterday and I asked him if it would be wise to consider placing measured shorts on Tractor Supply, Harbour Freight, Northern Tool, Walmart & others that are heavily weighted with Chinese goods due to the tariffs, whatever they might ultimately be. He's having his team prepare a report & recommendation.

Nothing I said wasn't true and not surprised you canceled a trip to the US, you never have anything positive to say about it or anyone in it so why would you want to visit?

I used to be one of those employees. Worked at the seasonal warehouse stacking pallets and loading trucks from 4PM to midnight. First job that ever drug tested me. And yes they'll be impacted. But US based businesses will grow and main street will get healthier which will provide them new opportunites. Or they could just 'learn to code', as a famous liberal once said.

You rail against the US government and now I see this:

"By the way everybody doesn't want to come to America we cancelled our summer visit instead we will go to newzealand"

Do you not even live here? It will certainly temper my interprettion of your, uh, concerns.
