Step Up Oklahoma

Same crew that created this mess have now came up
with this? No thank you.

This.

We simply don't value education. It's just insane that we've stripped down education funding to protect horizontal drilling.
Well, from what I gathered in mostly Dems that voted against this one. Seemed like shitty legislation anyway, but can’t blame Oklahoma Rs fornit not passing.

So what's the most recent update? Didn't get to watch hardly any news this morning.

if anyone is waiting for that cluster of individuals to do anything...well, you're wasting your time. It's been this way for 30 years. Clueless politicians who have no idea what to do. It's a definite reflection on the state of oklahoma.

Yep. Henry Bellmon wouldn't have put up with this.

Looks like most of the no votes were voting this bill down to try and get a new bill with higher gross production tax, restoration of %5 tax on the highest tax brackets, bringing back the earned income tax credit, and an increase in the standard deduction. So it looks like they are not opposed to these revenue ideas, they just think they are not enough and waiting for a bill that includes more.

it's short of passing...it takes 3/4 voting or 76 yes votes. And finally, what the dems said they wanted in exchange I've got no problem with. None of them were earth shattering. Going to have to raise the top tax rate. That was just 1 of their requirements.

You gather incorrectly.

A good mix of Rs and Ds voted against it. The no new taxers and the raise the gross production taxers killed this pretty equally.

What percentage R voted for/against compared to D? I believe I gathered correctly.

35 Nays.

18 of them Republican. 17 of the Democrat.

https://www.merriam-webster.com/dictionary/mostly

Mostly def.: for the greatest part.

The greatest part of the no votes were not Dems.

You didn’t gather correctly. It wasn’t “mostly Dems that voted against” it. It was, as I said, an equal mixture of Rs and Ds voting against. More Rs voting against the bill than Dems is characterized as “mostly Dems that voted against it”. The fact is “most” of the votes against the bill came from Republicans. It was mostly Republicans with the no votes. It wasn’t mostly Dems that voted against it.

You were wrong. Now you will try to move the goal post by comparing for/against percentages within the respective parties. That, however, is not a measure of who “mostly” voted no.

You are being purposely obtuse. What percentage of Ds voted No and percentage of Rs? You know the answer, but would rather be douchy.

you're correct 2001 as well as JD's point is correct it looks like to me. Lots of ways to dissect this. To bad these members can't find a compromise and do what's best for Oklahoma. Unfortunately, that takes leadership which may be lacking or may be just a futile effort. I'm sure it's been tried to a certain degree...leading that is. Maybe this group will figure something out that works and is sustainable. The oil industry is taxed a lot already but in Oklahoma that is the cash cow that is going to have to be the guy. There is no one else who can pay...no other industry. I guess we have no negotiators...again, which is nothing new.

You’re the one being purposefully idiotic.

Words have meaning. When you said “mostly Dems that voted against this one“, you were 100% incorrect.

You can play your team politics all you want and try to lay all the blame on one party or the other, but it is inescapable that when you said “mostly Dems that voted against this one” that was a factually incorrect statement by any reasonable definition.

You need to sit and marinade in what GOP control of Oklahoma state government looks like. This is it. If you want another example, look just north of us. The anti-intellectual, redneck, "me want" ethos of the GOP has manifested and you guys have got exactly what you've wanted all this time. Well done.

Oklahoma/Kansas are far-right and aren't representative of the mainstream GOP. Otherwise I completely agree with you.

Silly argument.

The majority of Dems voted against it. The majority of Republicans voted for it.

If Republicans would have voted all yea it would have passed.

It is correct to say the no tax increase crowd plus the tax the wealthy crowd voted this down.

I disliked it not because I'm in the 'no new taxes' crowd; but, because I didn't like the taxes they were proposing.

Still not going to answer are you?

It may also be correct to just say everyone not sold out to the bottom line of horizontal drillers was against it.

Lol.

Sure I’ll answer.

Democrats voted “no”at a higher percentage/ proportion to total Democrats than the “no” Republicans percentage/proportion to total Republicans.

That changes not one bit the fact that it WASN’T “mostly Dems that voted against this one”.

That changes not one bit the fact that your statement and claim was 100% factually incorrect.

Again, being purposely obtuse as you know exactly what I was saying...Dems sunk the bill. The majority of Rs supported, just not enough to overcome the majority of Dems that voted no.

Let me rephrase that. Democrats hate teachers at a higher percentage of possible voters on this issue than Republicans, but the pubes hate teachers more than the dims as a total number of possible voters on this issue. No? I'm confused.
@CowboyJD will approve of your correction.

You’re moving the goalposts

You “said” what you wrote...and what you wrote was 100% factually incorrect....and your pride won’t allow you to admit that and rephrase...you’d rather be intentionally idiotic and insist that your original statement was true.

And Dems that voted against the bill didn’t sink the bill any more than the R that voted against it.

63 + 18 equals more than enough to pass....just as much as 63+17 does.

You’re just playing team politics with this ridiculous claim that Dems are somehow more responsible for its failure.

What are your thoughts on this Step Up deal? I think we can all agree being 3rd to last in the US is unacceptable! Great teachers leaving the state.

I moved back from a state with legal cannabis, higher taxes, higher overall cost of living (gas typically 50-80 cents more), higher rent/property values, $11 dollar minimum wage, far fewer rebates and free rides for oil/gas and a better transit system than Oklahoma.

Their economy is ranked #11 by US News. Oklahoma is 34, propped up by one industry and the country’s 5th-most oil production and most complex pipeline network perhaps globally. There’s plenty of money to be made without the overt kickbacks.

Republicans are too afraid to touch the gross production tax by themselves. They fear the swarm of constituency backlash, and that’s a big problem in this state that affects every other industry’s footprint.

What state was that?
