Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker

I guess my point is that they added so many characters, a lot of them pointless, we couldn't get the development of the main folks more. Adding another droid to the mix, Rose and all of her unknown reasons for even being in the movie, Zorii, Jannah, the last two I mentioned playing what seem to be major supporting roles in the actual plot. Who the heck are these people? And why are they important other than getting our main folks out of trouble?
Rose isn’t that much of an unknown imo. She gave Fin her background story at the Casino and Fin needed someone to go on his mission with him. His mission was a waste and dumb but he needed a partner

I guess I look at them much like Wedge, Biggs, Boba Fett etc.

That whole mission was a complete waste

Yea but Wedge and Boba have some backstory from different series or the in Skywalker series that go into more detail. Just a tad different.

Wedge is a pretty major contributor in the Rebels story being the best pilot and we know Boba and Jango Fett's beginning. Biggs I would agree, we know he was Luke's buddy on Tatooine and they reunited in a New Hope but he was one and done in the film.

I'm not faulting these new films as FA, TLJ, and ROS were new characters for the most part and started from scratch. Just think they could have given us more into the main characters instead of the addition of many.

But as you say, all of that background info came later from different material. The movie did nothing for their story.

True, so guess we will see what other content they come out with to possibly support these movies like they did with other stories.

And, I wasn’t trying to come at you or anything. I was just saying that general the critics don’t really weigh the films out equally.

Just to remind you all how much Rian Johnson sucks.

Be thankful he only got his hands on only one Star Wars movie.

The biggest difference between the 456 extra characters and 789 was that the 456 character didn't have background and simply filled a role within the movie while 789 we had to get all of their background in the movie. The genious of GL is that in not spending time on the 456 extras he was able to keep the focus on the main characters and provide filler content later for extra marketing. 789 tries too hard to give you all the information and background which wastes time the movie watcher doesnt have or care to see at the time. Disney failed to understand the principles of the original films and screwed up what could have been a great relaunch.

So far I'm 7 episodes into mandalorian and with 45 min epeisodes and less budget the series is far better than 789. Disney would have done better making more series like this.

For now I will continue to never see another Ryan Johnson film ever. 789 was just a waste of time because of him and he may have killed any hope of rebooting the franchise with success. If Disney can recapture the originals principles then mabey but they have a long way to go to get back their staunchest of fans and the ones that made Star Wars billions after the movie was over.

GL was great at weaving in the supporting characters. The new films add in the extra characters into larger roles than they could handle in the plot when all the focus should be on Ben/Kylo, Rey, Finn, Poe, and the remaining Skywalkers.

Also, I understand your frustration with Rian, he really screwed up. You are missing out on several films that he did a great job with. Knives Out is really really cool.

We saw it today. My son, who is 10...FWIW, said it's the best movie he's ever seen.

I really enjoyed it too. Nice closing to the story.

Hopefully they don't add more content.

I finally saw TROS last night, so I could finally read this thread. Overall, I would say that I enjoyed it and it was worth seeing. However, Episode's 7,8 and 9 simply were not original enough for my taste. So many themes and plots were basically just rebooted from Episode's 4,5 and 6, that it made the 3 newest sequels very unfulfilling for me. I'm not a fan of the prequels, but at least their stories felt like original content and were far removed from the original trilogy. The newest trilogy just felt like a money grab that is basically "Let's redo the original trilogy but do it with new characters".

I'm ready to move on, and hoping that they just put the SW saga to bed and move on. I'm fine with other stories that take place in the SW universe, but don't need to see anything move involving these characters.

Some specific comments:

-About the only character that I found myself caring about was Chewie. I was not emotionally invested in any of the others.

-Where did thousands (hundreds of thousands?) of Sith come from, and wouldn't they be powerful enough to take over the galaxy without worrying about much of anything stopping them?

-As someone mentioned above, that interaction with Lando and Finn's love interest seemed weird, discomforting and pointless.

-Speaking of pointless...Rose, though.

-Again pointless...Poe's ex GF.

how do you know this?

Even so, poorly written/acted.

From the visual dictionary.

There is a ton of back story and other info that they didn't have time to put in the movie due to digging out of the huge pile of crap left by Rian. Not the best solution, by far, but it is what it is.
