All Republicans had to do was be sensible and maintain a threshold at viability. I'd love to protect every life, but we have more pressing concerns as a nation, and Republicans who spout about the sanctity of life aren't any different than the idiot libs who stop real progress and national solutions because an Owl was spotted nearby, or its the habitat of some lizard. Those are lives too. And everyone who votes based on this nonsense is EXACTLY the same as the liberal who only votes for "women's health care". Two sides of the same coin. But alas, that ship has sailed and now, instead of having realistic limits on abortion and a sane national policy, we have half the country where abortion is legal until the day the cord is cut, and you've given the party of fringe lunatics a lever to control elections at least once in basically every state in the country. Florida will have abortion on the ballot this year because of this lunacy. It won't flip Florida blue, but it will probably cost Republicans 2 seats in the house as well as their state congressional super-majority. In states like Arizona, it will cost Republicans the governorship, a senate seat and its electoral votes for president. And for what? Republicans who support this extremist anti-abortion position (such as the various heartbeat bills) were still voting for Republicans. But moderates who otherwise would be backing Trump and return to sanity are instead seeing both sides as extremists and voting against the one who wants to legislate women's wombs.
