Schedule

Was watching Davis (PSU) va Nasir Bailey (LR). Davis won 1-0 but should have been called stalling atleast couple more times. No offense from him. Bailey didn’t go to the bottom. I will take Bailey the next time they go.
Not sure what match you were watching. Davis deserved his stall call less than a minute into the match but Bailey did nothing after that to deserve Davis getting another. Just because it's hand fighting and good defense for 6 minutes doesn't make it stalling. I guess the ref agreed.

133 - #11 Braeden Davis VS #5 Nasir Bailey

Period 1:
Circling. Bailey in deep on a leg quickly, but Davis fights him off. Circling, Bailey drives Davis out of bounds, restart. Stall warning Davis. Circling & head tapping. Bailey has both wrists taped & Davis has his right knee heavily taped. Circling in the center. Bailey snaps, nothing & they're hand fighting hard. Davis coming forward a little. Both working from one knee now. Davis tries a throw by, no luck & they're back to center, 1-min left. Circling, Davis coming forward a little, he shoots and they go out of bounds. That's how the period ends. 0-0.

Period 2:
Davis takes down. Davis turns & gets the escape, 1-0. Circling, tying up, hand fighting & head tapping. Both wrestlers in the center of the mat, 1-min left. Bailey taps, but doesn't shoot. Both wrestlers looking for an opportunity. Out of bounds, 18-sec left. That's it 1-0 Davis

Period 3:
Bailey takes neutral. Bailey tapping at the head, Davis working the wrist. Shooting & countering, but no scoring. Bailey keeps looking for an opening, but can't find one.

Braeden Davis DEC Nasir Bailey 1-0

I disagree. Bailey did try. Just because he didn’t get In deep doesn’t mean he didn’t try. Should have been one more stall call.

OToole vs Levi was fun! Both not giving an inch in regulation. With OToole taking more shots easily than Levi. In SV, after amazing scramble. OToole gets it done confirming he is number 1. Kudos to both and their staff for not ducking.

I don't believe either guy had a TD in that scramble. How do you give a TD to a guy who is literally prone on the mat with his head in the other guy's crotch facing the mat. That said, Levi had his chances.

That was the fair outcome. Levi never really had control and had his arm locked by OToole. And finally OToole was coming out of Levi’s crotch when they gave TD. You see everything with your PSU glasses I guess.

Not at all. I’ve already said Levi didn’t have the TD. I’m just saying that KOT hadn’t yet gotten the TD imo. I think he would have 5-10 seconds later. I’m saying the call was premature but inevitable, and you seem to agree. Where do we disagree?

Probably both of you have slight ocular problems when viewing your respective teams but I do agree with both of you that matches like this are exciting and close and good for the sport. However, I did not have a dog in this race so I can be more fair and impartial and look like the wise old man I am. However, if a Cowboy was in the match all bets are off as far as being magnanimous and graceful.

lol. My team is OSU. I was looking at it as a neutral.

The real question is, how does Hamiti stack up? This is where attitude, supreme confidence and a lack of deference would play a factor. If Hamiti walks out on that mat with something to prove, Then he can go with anyone. If he is star struck, he will struggle.

Not 5 or 10 seconds more like 1-2 seconds at best. I don’t see an issue giving that a TD as it was Levi who gave up his grip, like he was ready for the inevitable. Maybe when they meet again, there will be different outcome. But that was a fair result. But if it happens for OSU I would complain too, so I can make sense of your complaint as PSU fan.

Levi style is something which will be difficult for Hamiti to overcome. But Hamiti rate of attack will be a lot higher than Levi, there is a chance that Hamiti converts a couple . OT vs Hamiti will be a banger of offensive clash.

It's not a complaint lol. Just an observation that the TD was awarded too soon. You seem to agree so ...

For the record, Levi lost fair and square and had his chances, and a different ref may have called it differently. Onward to March.

Incontrera of Penn is likely to go undefeated, and KOT-Hamiti will wrestle twice. I can see a situation where Hamiti and KOT take up the 1st and 4th seeds at nationals.

Even if Hamiti loses twice, I don’t see him going lower than 3. Only way he goes lower is if he loses to anyone other that OT

You think KOT might be the 4 seed after beating Haines, where's that put Levi? ;)

I can see him getting that 4 after the Penn guy if he loses twice to KOT.

What I really can see happening is that he splits with KOT and they get the 2 and three with Haines getting the 1...PSU bias.

I feel like in the event they split matches and don’t lose otherwise, the Big 12 winner is #1 in the coaches poll and Incontrera (even if undefeated) is #4.

The seeding matrix is another story and I have no clue how that would shake out. But if everyone’s matrix score is close enough, I think the coaches are the tie breaker?

I think that Haines would get the 1 if DJ splits with KOT with the winner of the latest match getting the better seed. Incontra goes over one of them as an undefeated guy but his SOS doesn't allow him the 1.

The coaches have less say than you would imagine. Only really egregious mistakes are changed and that is not common. The criteria are agreed upon in advance so one cannot easily complain since it's based on math. One of the math criteria is record. Win percent is 10% of the criteria

The NCAA Division I Wrestling Committee uses the following criteria to seed wrestlers for the NCAA wrestling championships:

  • Head-to-head competition: 25%
  • Quality wins: 20%
  • Coaches ranking: 15%
  • Results against common opponents: 10%
  • RPI (Ratings Percentage Index): 10%
  • Qualifying event placement: 10%
  • Win percentage: 10%

No doubt. It did wonders for Jordan Oliver his senior year. Just curious if he had trouble staying within the weight last year or was it due to the team’s current talent in weights below his.

No. Last year was difficult for Levi to make 157. He managed by wrestling low octane matches. Lots of 5-0 type affairs. Until yesterday's loss, every match this year was bonus. Last year was about 65%. He has opened up a lot more.

That's not correct. Last year that changed the coaches ranking is now only 10%. Qualifying event placement is now 15%

LOL. They tweak the formula and then put Carter in the 9 slot to face number 1 in the quarters. I heard that the formula put him at 6 but the committee tried to "penalize" Carter by making him 9th. Did anyone ever talk to Mekhi to find out his thoughts on the "penalty".

Carter at the 9 was an odd one no doubt

By giving him the 9 seed allowed him to earn the 1 seed side of the bracket back which was fair to all. Lewis didn't get 3rd he wasn't getting in the finals. The 3 seed ended up 7th. The 2 seed got 5th. I don't know why anybody complains about this.
