Registered Democrat??Are these fake news/photo shops?

Chubby, if you follow through and shoot President Trump, did you kill Trump or did the gun?

Between you and a gun, in which is it easier to detect being fuked up?

A gun has a trigger for a reason. So it doesn’t harm someone by itself lol.

Carry on.

Ready?

The subsequent decline is due to Roe v. Wade.

Straight outta Freakonamics.

Oh dear God. OK, go ahead and connect the dots. I’m ready.

There's been a lot of ink spilled on this point. You can probably find lots of stuff on it if you google it up. The thesis is that the socioeconomic class that commits most murders started having abortions instead of criminals.

I suppose another way of stating that would be they started having abortions instead of being responsible parents.

Yes. That is exactly the crux of the Freakonomics argument.

It’s one made without moral judgment or input. It’s purely based upon the numbers.

Dude. Yes.

You know what I am talking about given what you have done all your life. There is a real reason why so many LEO have such a dark sense of humor. It’s an emotional self defense mechanism. I have it as well.

to your credit you build self awareness

in my experience it’s in short supply

I try, thanks. I’ve decided no amount of examination or effort is gonna “fix” the outside world. The only control I have is over how I am going to react and deal with the world. If I’m gonna do that in a healthy manner, I have to look inward and understand myself. Sometimes I feel that is a selfish world viewpoint, but it is what works best for me.

Also, FWIW...@CBradSmith and others calling me out for being an asshole on this board earlier this year did lead to a change in my posting habits here.

You guys had a point. I was fostering conflict for the sake of conflict. Decided I don’t like that about myself and have tried to change. I’m sure I will backslide on this at points (I do like to fight...just for sake of fighting), but I’m trying to do better...for myself and my own peace of mind.

This is true of just about anyone who works in public safety and emergency medicine. My first taste of large scale inhumanity was the Murray bombing.

I'm having a harder and harder time reconciling my self preservation shell I retreat into with guilt over inaction.

The kid stuff needs the force of every day people behind it. Where do you start?

I obviously have the same struggle.

That’s a good question. It’s one I don’t have an answer to. Especially with the societal group’s seemingly so divided between extremes.

It seems like something everyone should rally to, a uniting cause.

Are we that fractured over manufactured crisis that we can't see real problems?

The lowest hanging fruit is hardening our schools. I can't get into the Oklahoma State Department of Health building to get a birth certificate without going through a security checkpoint that has a metal detector and x-ray machine. The only access in the building is the first floor. You can't get on the elevators to go any other place unless you get past an additional security checkpoint and have a card to operate the elevator.

I can walk into the Southridge Junior High School unimpeded.

It only took one instance of flying planes into buildings to change cockpit access, airport screening, and armed Marshals on planes. Banning the sale of AR15 would be a symbolic victory, but it won't change the reality of the millions of AR15s already out there. Confiscating the known AR15s out there still won't get them all. And even if the impossible were to happen, the roundup of every semi-auto weapon in the country, we still have a porous southern border that drugs and humans flow through every hour of every day. Supplying the US market with more semi-auto weapons won't be difficult for the cartels to pull off.

Why isn't the obvious beginning point to look at borrowing from other countries that don't have this problem? That's not ideological. It seems the most obvious way to solve a problem is see what has and does work elsewhere.

I think you have to look at everything.

I keep circling back to social media and the proliferation of this particular type of bullshit.

Yup. Lots of hunting rifles, I cant' recall anybody having an AR or AK back then, though.

We used to dove hunt before and after school at every chance and e1 had their shotgun and shells in the parking lot. We could all shoot, too - like... shoot as opposed to spray and pray. Everybody knew safety and if someone wasn't safe there were issues with their teenage peers. That dynamic was healthy. City kids buying AR's is not.

Honest question. If a ban or control on assault rifles was passed, do you think the left would stop there or make a push to get on other fire arms?
Personally, I think they would use it as a springboard to try and control all firearms, therefore I can’t support the former. Along with I believe some as deranged as a school shooter would find a way to get one.

You are as big a force for good as there is. That's not limited to 1 or 2 characteristics. I'm glad for you, and for us all.

These are interesting times where conflict can be found everywhere. You're a Howitzer on the good side...and "good" isn't defined by a political leaning.

In my humble opinion

It does seem like there's more frequency.

There are so damned many of these AR's now and they're cheaper than ever. They used to be pricey -- even in the '90's before there were all the knock-offs you couldn't hardly get one for less than $1,000. Now they're $450 and lots of people make them. Advertised everywhere, youtube (social media I guess) has them everywhere with gadgets and lasers hanging off of them....

@TPOKE I think "the left" you're referring to is everyone from the "confiscate all guns" crew to old hunters and rednecks like me that were raised with guns and think the very idea of a semi-auto being available to nuts is itself nuts.

Personally, I think it's overkill to try and ban non- semi auto guns. Those guns aren't the problem. It's the guns that are specifically designed to kill as many people as fast as possible that are the problem. When this issue was first getting hot back in the 80's, I remember old timers and hunters back then saying that the 30 round clips and AK's and SKS's were a bit much. The AR wasn't really as hot as the other commie cheap guns back then.

best post from anyone on this board in months. the fighting can be fun to a point for sure but this board isn’t real life. it can really get in your head the wrong way if you let it.

for what it’s worth, you changed my mind on the potential citizenship aspect of trumps DACA proposal and I think that you can be one of the most persuasive voices of the constitutional center on this or any other board

Hell, I'm a weirdo. I really like to be engaged by people with well thought out point of views that challenge my own. How else do we learn and grow. If it somehow devolves into trash talk, I'm more than willing to make the whole board uncomfortable. That's just me. I like conflict and seeing how people think when when they're uncomfortable.

I liked the JD that put people on blast just to see the reactions. Fight on.

Nope, the BS narrative you and others try to drive home is though lol. Violent crime is nowhere near what it was in the 70s and 80s.

Everyone just has a smartphone now so you think it’s more of a problem. It’s not.

Carry on.

Then I guess we don't need new (unconstitutional) gun control laws.

Just combine these into a single post. I agree with both.

Like I said, I’m sure you’ll see that guy again at some point.

Right now I’m working out that side of myself with Muay Thai sparring and Jiu jitsu.

I hate to think that we may be that fractured, but we might be. I think that “social media” may be a large contributing cause. So much so that I have started thinking of it as “antisocial” media.

Totally agree with you. These message boards are as social media as I get. I have no facebook or twitter. Just didn't see the value. I have a LinkedIn profile, but really don't see the value in it either since I'm not looking to leave my current company.

Twitter is good for breaking news. That’s a big reason I get on it, also for OSU sports and recruiting. Facebook is only good for the marketplace now.

First, glad to see the dickish side of JD taking a break (j/k....it always cracked me up....even the wichita shooting thread!)

Seriously, though, I agree with the anti-social media comment. The rise of the social justice warriors, the quick convictions on social media, etc is absolutely terrifying to me. I used to think that there was no way people would behave the way that they do on social media compared to face to face. That has changed, and people are getting as nasty to each other either way. I have no answers on this particular topic, but would love to see actual statistics and data (unlike toon's wiki citing).
