Before any discussion takes place, you might want people to also look at the Posse Comitatus (1878) specific exclusion of the Insurrection Act of 1807, as amended in 2007 and 2008.
Let me help you out so you don't waste time. The 2007/2008 amendments of the Insurrection Act gives the President specific authority to do exactly what Trump said he would do with military personnel at the border. And the Insurrection Act trumps (pardon the pun) the Posse Comitatus act.

Actually to be correct, the 2007 amendment was revised in 2008 to state:
The President, by using the militia or the armed forces, or both, or by any other means, shall take such measures as he considers necessary to suppress, in a State (say California or Texas), any insurrection, domestic violence, unlawful combination, or conspiracy, if it (1) so hinders the execution of laws of that State or of the United States....or (2) opposes or obstructs the execution of the laws of the United States.
I'd say you couldn't come up with a more perfect description than hundreds of illegal (emphasis added) immigrants trying to usurp our immigration laws by coming over our border on an unauthorized basis.
