Iowa

If Reece wrestles against Ayala and gets beat he won't allocate a spot for the big 12. Pearsall has been in the game awhile imagine he knows the allocation system well. Wouldn't shock me if we saw Hughes so Reece keeps his allocation criteria
really great point, Corby.

interesting angle. i just can't for the life of me see david making the call who to send based on that. but definitely something to think about.

I expect Iowa to stall most of the match, never get called for it, and then when down with about 30 seconds to go, attack twice and some how we will get called for stalling both times, Iowa will get the point and tie/win a match.

I hate Iowa.

Would love to see Rin get the nod in this dual to see how he has progressed in folk. Plus, if the entire allocation thing is correct, it benefits the team because I do not think Witcraft can get the W against Ayala.
If Rin wrestles his first folkstyle match against the #1 ranked 133-pounder in Carver, that would be pretty surprising. DT so far doesn't seem like the type to pull something like that, but if he does, and Rin somehow pulls out a win, he will instantly be a legend

Yeah, that is a lose/lose for the win.

Rin wins, it's a moment that is hard to top again and creates an expectation in the air of Uetake...that likely won't come to fruition. If he loses, well, he loses.

Any info about how Rin is doing against the other guys in the room?

These are only scenarios if they run the scores up
Grok:
Based on current rankings and match previews, the wrestling dual between Oklahoma State and Iowa tomorrow, February 23, 2025, is expected to be very close. Both teams have strong wrestlers, with Oklahoma State likely favored in five weight classes and Iowa also favored in five. Key matches could go either way, and bonus points from major decisions, tech falls, or pins may determine the outcome. Iowa's home advantage in Iowa City might give them a slight edge in tight matches. While Oklahoma State has the potential to win, especially given their undefeated season, Iowa's strength in certain weight classes and the home crowd support make it more likely that Iowa will edge out Oklahoma State.

Therefore, Oklahoma State is not likely to beat Iowa tomorrow.

This "Grok" person should have just said the team with the most points at the end of the dual will win!

Thank you! How close is he to being ready to go? Anyone know?
Seems like that info is locked up tighter than fort Knox. He did travel with the team to the Arkansas dual so that's a good sign. I would've liked to see him hit an open this year, but I imagine there's way more challenges with him compared to a normal redshirt. Language, culture and a new style of wrestling are all new for him so I guess we need patience.

It is stunning that with all the interviews with Taylor not 1 wrestling reporter has asked the Coach how that highly rated Japanese wrestler is doing in practice. He has not wrestled as a redshirt in any competitions, nor has there been any reports from practice. When I have listened to these interviews most of questions asked are uninteresting or really gives us no information. The reporters sure could do a better job and I would listen just for any information on Sakamoto.

I think reporters are generally over-criticized, but I agree with you. A lot of the questions are goofy and repetitive

Yup!

You guys are right on track with the media and looks obvious DT doesn’t enjoy this part of the job. I could be wrong?

It’s the same ole, same ole. “Who is the guy at 33? Is there separation at 33? What are you thinking of the 1st year? Are you pleased with the progress?”

Not sure if it’s fear or just overall lack of knowledge? I am sure it’s not building much excitement and/or knowledge enhancement.

Cael is the same way. I prefer Dresser's and Brands' approaches. They will tell you if they're not going to answer a question directly and the rest of the time they open up and show a little personality and provide their wrestling knowledge. The YouTube channel StaleMates has some nice longform interviews with those guys. Hopefully DT loosens up with time.
