OSU v. Utah Valley

The fact that Barraclough didn't attempt a takedown and still won should temper everyone's enthusiasm about Amine. He is a known quantity. He will win most bouts by decision but is challenged in a number of areas that limits his high AA ability. He is a 5-8 AA at best. It is too late to change his style so he is what he is. Unfortunately. Just my honest opinion.
If DT can teach him the counter to the Penn State ankle ride then he 'has a chance.' :)

To me, Spratley and Travis looked basically the same last year. I remember someone commenting right after his transfer that Amine had little offense. Little offense, can't get off the bottom and can't ride for 20 secs means a loss.

The big guys looked aggressive and great. Witcraf with some good throws (duh) and even went to the leg a couple of times. Carter also wrestled well.
It was a different Amine, for sure. He looked real good

Surber being healthy is a big reason for his improvement last night.

From a recent article
“Luke Surber told the media last week that it literally hurt him to shoot a takedown most of last season as he battled injury after injury. He said his goal was to essentially score one takedown and hope his defense was good enough to make sure that was enough for a win at 197 pounds.”

Expecting every wrestler to be massively improved after 5 months is just unrealistic. Being better in March is the goal not November.
I never said I expected "massive" change. If a wrestler, last year, tended to wrestle passively in periods 1 & 2 only to try their hardest in the third period, particularly a wrestler that has obvious offensive ability (Spratley, Jamison, Travis, Thompson), I don’t think it would be “massive” improvement for him to attempt a takedowns in periods 1 & 2 and pour it on in the 3rd to get a takedown.

okstatefan said: I guess it’s our problem we expected change from you too? Are you related to Harley?? It’s the FIRST match!!
I find it somewhat ridiculous to state an opinion here only to be emphatically lambasted (two exclamation points, no less). As I stated above, I never said I expected "massive" change. I did say that, IMHO, I thought they "looked basically the same last year".

If you seriously believe that I, or anyone else here, should change my opinion simply because you, or anyone else, disagree(s) with it then that is, indeed, "your problem".

That being said, I didn't come here for an arguement or continue some tit-for-tat (yes you did, no I didn't.. [Ding!] Sorry. The five minutes is up), I'm here to have a civil discussion about wrestling so this is the last time I'll respond to this except to say, yes, I am related to Harley. We are "Loyal and true", Oklahoma State Wrestling Fans ...and that was never five minutes.

You said “Sorry if it rubs anybody and I know it's early but I bought and drank heavily of the new DT, bright orange kool-aid. I expected and expect significant improvement and fairly quickly.”

Worrying about expectations and development after one dual just seems exhausting and pointless to me (and unfair to the coaches/athletes). I’m not here to police fandom though. Be a fan how you ever you want. But if you post things in a public forum some people might disagree.

I don’t like how Travis and Spratley wrestled. If they are still wrestling like this when it matters I will be disappointed. But there is a chance they just had a bad night.
