OK STATE VS. WYOMING

How do the Club 34 deal look? Good amount of people? Just curious if this idea is working out.
It looked ok. Maybe 40-50 people I think. I wouldn’t want to stand the whole time personally haha. Not sure if the drinks/snacks were included but there was a table with offerings. Couple groups looked like they enjoyed it and a couple not so much. One lady leaning on one of the tables the second half looked miserable haha. It’s a cool idea tho but again I want a seat.

That was, potentially, Spratley’s best win as a Cowboy. He has a chance to have the best weekend of anyone in college wrestling with a win on Sunday.

Witcraft is the most exciting of the 1st 5 guys.

141/149/157 are slightly concerning right now

The last 5 guys are like the Yankees.

I would've been happy with 8k. Most disappointed in empty 200 level seats. Season ticket holders not showing and then not making sure someone is in there seats. It's pretty easy to buy the whole season just so you can go to the big matches. It hurts the product. Fill you seats even if you have to give them away to friends, family or kids wrestling clubs.
Iowa’s home opener was only about half full as well despite selling out tickets. The quality of opponent matters a lot when it comes to dual attendance.

Sorry, didn't read through all 4 pages so if it's been talked about already my apologies. CY is one of the most frustrating wrestlers I've watched in recent memory. It's not that I think he's bad or that he doesn't try hard and do things the right way. I'm a real big fan and think he still has a high ceiling but I've never seen someone have so many scoring opportunities turn in to opposing wrestlers points. If he could ever learn how to finish some of his deep scoring opportunities he'd be a sure fire AA.

I agree with what others have said 165+ is a murderers row. If you aren't up by 20 by the time you get there you are going to lose.

Question for the PSU guys that are on here now. I kind of picked up on our guys appearing gassed late in the matches; is that something that is typical for how DT will run things? Use the regular season to get in shape and hopefully peak in March? Not anything I'm too concerned about, just curious.

I didn’t think your guys were gassed at all. The fact that your guys won the close contests proves that. One thing you’ll see over time is that OSU will win a lot of the late 3rd and SV matches. I saw some of that last night. As for training toward March, that’ll happen in January when most of the team lays an egg. It’s like a reset button to peak in March.

So far I see amazing similarities to Cael’s coaching style so expect the same here. I saw a lot of good takeaways for you guys last night.

The crowd was perfectly fine. 7,000 for a Friday dual against Wyoming when school is lit is nothing to be embarrassed about. It was loud and was a good environment.
I agree. Anyone who was expecting a sold out crowd against Wyoming really only has themselves to blame for being disappointed.

Me and my brother both agreed it was the best home opener crowd we’ve seen in a while.

My seats were filled and they won’t be empty very often, if ever.

I didn’t like missing this, but my circumstances aren’t excuses and won’t be public.
I know what you’re all about Chase and I wasn’t trying to specifically call you out. As you said, you made sure that your seats were full.

It was just a good jumping off point for me being pissy.

I guess it's an interesting idea, revenue wise, but I think it should be something like a student only section. Maybe they could pack em in there and have some fun. I remember how much fun we (the students) were setting in the south bleachers behind the bench waiting for the '78 Big 8 to start. I sat in those bleachers about half of the 78/79 season as well. It was pandemonium.

I like the idea for the club for revenue but why no seats? I would think some really comfortable elevated seats would be a nice addition.

I don’t like your New York Yankees comparison at all. The only way to describe the New York Yankees’ results (this Century/Millenia) is a team that wrestles very well, sometimes great; wins their conference nearly every year; performs very well in the postseason only to peter out in the end. This is not the way I see our “last five” performing this year.

The only way your analogy could be worse is if you meant to say they wrestled like they were born in New England where "real" Yankees are from. However, if you were born in England/Europe, consider all Americans “Yanks” and want to thank us for saving your asses during WWII, then it's a great analogy and I apologize for my earlier commits.

Maybe a nice idea but if we want to get back to the atmosphere of the mid/late 70s need to come up with better ideas for getting more people in the empty seats not nicer seats for us old guys. I do remember standing for Bedlam one year. It was beyond seating capacity and was extremely loud.

Problem is the new GIA was over built for all sports.8-10k capacity would be just right. I agree with butts in the seats but we also need more funds. I have always thought for basketball is take a large portion of the 300 level and remove the seats and upgrade with premium seats and concessions/waiters. All of football club seats are sold out.

I also think $2 tickets and concessions for the smaller duals could help some. It will take a multi level approach.

The fastest and most useful way to bolster attendance, while increasing the environment to raucous is to appeal to the student base.

Penny beer always generated a line down the street. I’m not sure it’s a great idea to build attendance from students, but an all-sports pass with a $5-$10 for beer specials would possibly work. It may not be a great idea, but it’s an idea.

I just wonder if each sport decides on their
promotions bc women’s basketball seems to get it.The crowds are not huge but tickets and concessions are often times so
cheap that people will go who are fringe fans. It has been discussed before but somehow you have to get the Greek community more involved.

Whoever said GIA is just too big a venue is correct. Back in the day when men's basketball was the hottest ticket in town it seemed like the right move but those days are long gone and the student base doesn't attend winter sports like they used to so it just looks empty for most events. I think it's time for wrestling and a few other sports to have their own arena and I thought I heard something about this being a possibility.
