OK State vs. West Virginia Sunday 1/19

Plott was dominate riding in the 1st and super dominant on his feet. An easy tech against a fairly tough opponent.
Surber wrestled poorly but manhandled a takedown to tie the match in the 3rd period and then hung on to get riding time and the win. Hendrickson gets the takedown and then cross faces his opponent to his back for a quick pin. Jamison, Fish, Hamiti, Plott and Hendrickson wrestled really good and everyone else not so good. Hendrickson's pin meant we scored 30 team points again.

What was the hubbub at the end of Surber's match? I lost radio connection
Surber lost a point on top for both feet leaving mat when breaking down his opponent earlier. At the end of the match with Surber riding there was a question I think if Surber clasped and maybe that it took Surber too long to get his opponent back to the mat after standing up.

why didn't the WVU wrestler in one of the earlier bouts not get penalized for the same infraction. Why wasn't there a count on Hall when he held Amine's leg during his ride on several occasions but Surber gets a swipe when he grabs a leg. This ref sucked today just as he did in an earlier match that he called.

We were slow and lethargic in many of our matches. We showed very little mat IQ that cost us points. Sheets releases his man with a lead and just stood there allowing the guy to get the winning points. If Fish had rode out the last 10 seconds instead of releasing, he gets a TF with his riding time.
Not a fun match for us but give WVU credit for not backing down and scrambling hard to fight off takedowns.

They were very good at the heavy handed face and head slap early.

WVU came to wrestle tonight. Their guys gave it all they had.

Spratley needs to put these two losses behind him and look forward. Not dwell on them. He is going to be fine.

I am most impressed with Jamison. This kid has gotten so much better since last year and showed it tonight against Titus. I think they had a two point match last year. He continues to wrestle every match, like tonight, and got the major.

We didn't look great as a whole but I think that's due to Spratley getting pinned bring it down. Hope he isn't hurt bc he has not looked good last 2 matches. I think Hughes shoulder is far from 100%. Are they still going through a "hell week"?

Not OSU’s best match but I was impressed with the kids. The last thing I would want to do after wrestling a full match is sign a bunch of autographs. The only time I would want to do it less is after a loss. But every kid that wrestled, and some that didn’t, was signing autographs. Regardless of if they won, lost, or didn’t wrestle, they were friendly and smiling for the kids that waited in line to meet them. Makes it even more fun to follow and pull for them.

They did look a little gassed with few exceptions. Definitely think the practices must have been rough. Carter Young did seem to have a little bit of a limp when I saw him. I’m assuming it was his knee that was hurt at end of the no state match when his leg kind of got pulled?

The gossip at the dual was the Amine was still recovering from a bout of pneumonia. That, in addition to hell week, in addition to the fact that he wrestles different in March, in addition to the fact that I expect all our guys to peak in March, makes me not too worried about the loss yesterday.

At the end of his last match the kid grabbed and yanked on his leg. Carter limped off. It looked like it really hurt his hip.

When do PSU guys start to climb out of the hell week slumps? What do you guys generally expect from late February duals and Big 10 tournament performances?
It’s only a week. Thus “hell week”

It’s noticeable though. I remember the panic the first few years. Now it’s an expected event mid January. I literally predicted it before our dual meet on Friday. Like clockwork. I discount all negative performances during this week. The prize is March.

This will be a quick one. Hats off to Flynn and Co., they came to wrestle.

Spratley- I dont like seeing him give up Tds but it was a great shot by a HUGE strickenberger. Troy looked like he was back in business with the reversal but got in a hurry and was to loose when he tried to turn him and the scramble ensued and then the pin.

Hughes- Cael wrestled hard. I mean he had several shot attempts but things just werent going his way. His opponent was really big as well. Gutting it out and getting the win in a close match shows good things though.

Jamison- Consistent. I like it. Saw some different attacks as well. Big test coming this weekend.

Sheets- Hopefully Carter gets back but Sheets wrestled hard. Had a huge brain fart on the release when he stood to close and allowed the guy to grab his leg. I DESPISE how as a team we release guys. Get up and get the hell away! Either we drag it out for 20 sec pushing on their head or we see something like we did with Cutter.

Fish- His confidence is growing. Another big guy from WVU but Fish handled him. I'm excited to watch him this weekend.

Amine- Not great. But he has an amazing staff that will continue to work on those things.

Hamiti- What can I say? Just continues to look great!

Plott- Pretty dominant by Dustin. Not a fan of that hammer lock he uses. He tries to take the arm across the back and either loses it or at best gets a wing that took him 20+ secs to get. But what do I know? I'm not a multi - time AA or finalist.

Luke- Another large wrestler from WVU. Concerned that Luke definitely didnt look himself. Struggled to get to a leg, lost scrambles and struggled to ride. Lets hope he's back to himself soon.

Hendrickson- Just a very large and very bad man!

And there ya have it.

Fartz out ✌️

WVU wrestlers were HUGE! Either of the first 2 guys could have come out at 149 and fit the weight. I know the 25 pounder had been at 33 at the first of the year.
I give the WVU wrestlers credit for wrestling hard and doing a great job in scrambles.

Which duel we anticipate being the toughest this weekend? Know the clones have some guys hurt.
