Is rogers wrestling?
Chandler Rogers, Joe Smith and Keegan Moore were listed but did not wrestle. Derek White is huge. He dec. Blake Andrews in the finals 10-0. He looked sluggish in his match against Lance Dixon. Either he gave him too much respect as an old team mate or just coasted but otherwise he looked very good. His dad said he weighed 220 last year and the pull was just too much. He weighed in at 241 today and looked even bigger. Anderson dec. Lance Dixon in the third place match. Dixon does not look like he weighs 200#. Kaid and Dean cake-walked to their 1st place matches. Jacobe Smith only had two matches and he looked very strong. Eli Hale dec. Gary Wayne Harding for first at 125. We have four 149 pounders that are very close in skill. Geo, Boo, Tristan all looked very good. Did I say that Derek White looks very big-Derek White looks very big! Informal poll taken and it was decided that neither Mr. Earl or I should talk about who is the ugliest. Hands down we were the ugliest there!

Wow Dean Heil is getting Falls/Bonus point wins, so used to him barely winning (though he almost always wins) He has really opened up his offense and this will help the team immensely, he has improved tremendously, shows what hard work in the off season can do, even NCAA Champions can improve.

I hope Dean is improved but you certainly can not ascertain that by the results of this tournament as the only quality D1 wrestlers that now attend are OSU wrestlers. It is nice to see our guys wrestling but with the lack of competition at this tournament it ends up being OSU vs OSU at most weights in the later rounds.

The Open division of this tournament has mostly turned into an OSU ranking tournament. Hale looked solid and handled Harding easily. Brock dominated. Heil pushed the action and looked for separation in each of his matches. Lewallen v Martinez and Lewallen v Moran were both great matches. There is very little difference between the three. Each could be an AA at the end of the year. Jacobe was dominate the entire 2 minutes and 49 seconds he wrestled. All three heavyweights looked good at times. Andrews dominated Anderson while White dominated Andrews. The only disappointing match I recall was the 197 final.

In the Frosh/Soph division, Gfeller dominated like was expected. Austin Harris looked to have some good potential. I am really impressed with the NEO program. I read somewhere that they only returned two starters from last years team, but it seemed like they dominated the lower division. Renfro must be a heck of a coach.

Would have been nice for Moore to get some matches. He needs the mat time.

Mardsen (I think) spent all off season gearing for 184 so all of sudden he is bumping up and could have affected him.

149 will be interesting. My opinion is if Lewellen is already beating the other two then he will continue to separate as he grows into the weight and gets comfortable.

Can any of the 149ers make an impact at 157? Seems like we have 3 guys there with real potential.

What weight is D White wrestling? I thought that he was going up to heavyweight?
Lance Dixon is back at OU after a year at UCO and is wrestling heavyweight. Andrew Dixon is still at OU at 197. Derek is VERY much a heavyweight.

I believe we are solid at heavy weight with Derek but he is the only heavy weight in our room that is competitive at D1 so it will take several matches to see how he does against top heavy weights. He is definitely strong enough and big enough-weighed in at 241. Weigel indicated he will be back before the first of the year which will allow Marsden to go back to 184. However, he is definitely in John's doghouse now so I believe it will be Keegan Moore at 184. I wish he had been at this tournament.

Can anyone that attended provide some color commentary on the 149 and 285 varsity matches? Did anyone standout in terms of strength, speed, offensive attacks, etc?

Also, Neil Putnam did better than I expected, taking 3rd over Brian Andrews. How did he look?

Geo is a big strong 149 pounder and past AA so you would think he might be one who could handle a bump up.

Blaylock has had some good results here and is not a bad option at 157.

Martinez looked very aggressive and had Lewallen beaten until a very late and questionable stall call tied it. We have three very even with each other, need to see who does best vs D1 opponents.

I think Lewellen will continue to improve as he gets additional time to add weight and strength.

How is this weekend's journeyman tournament constructed? Is it an open tournament or a dual format?
There are duals scheduled for Saturday, Oklahoma State wrestles North Carolina, then a round-robin style individual tournament on Sunday.

Why is Marsden in John's doghouse for taking that loss?

I've never seen John so pissed after an individual's performance than after Marsden's. I don't blame him, Marsden looked like he wanted no part in wrestling in the finals.

Andrew is extremely nonchalant when wrestling. I think he is genuinely confident in certain unorthodox positions. His approach can probably be mistaken for apathy. In this case, it appeared to be a lack of effort. The ou wrestler got to his legs easily and Andrew did very little to defend the takedown. If I remember right, Andrew could have rode him out to force OT or turned him for the win. A long period of time was spent with Andrew draped across the back with no legs in and no attempt to break down his opponent. The ou wrestler finally stood up and dumped him and Andrew didn't press the action from there.

Our wrestling coach may dislike losing to ou much more than our football coach. Especially like that.
