Next Years Lineup

If we land Figueroa:

125 Spratley
133 Figueroa
141 Hughes/Vega
149 Swiderski/Jamison/Travis
157 Jamison/Robideau/Travis
165 Lockett
174 Facundo
184 Ryder/Thompson
197 Merrill
HWT Doucet
Swiderski was on a podcast someone posted recently and said he'll be at 49 and Tagan will be at 41. That could obviously change, but appears to be the current plan.

Tagen doesn’t have the technique or offense to be successful at 149 IMO.

He has had success at 141 because he is such a powerful wrestler there. His length at the weight helps as well. He just has to manage the cut all season which he has struggled with for 2 seasons now.

The offense issue could be at least partly due to a lack of energy from a big weight cut. I have a lot of hope for him up a weight. I'm a huge Tagen fan though

A lot of questions for next years lineup. Does Figs end up at OK State? Can Hughes make 133 or go up to 141? What weight does Jamison wrestle, 141 or 149? Where does Swiderski fit in at? What weight does Travis go if he can crack the lineup? Does anyone know what weight Facundo is going to wrestle 157, 165, 174 and is he good enough to start? Does Lockett wrestle his true freshman year, if so what weight? Do any other true freshman break into the lineup? Has Thompson improved enough to break into the lineup, if so what weight, 174 or 184? Is 184 already Ryder's spot, or can someone beat him in a wrestle off? Does anyone transfer in at HWT? Seems like the only two weights that do not have questions are 125 and 197. I guess this is why DT, TG, TC, BP, and JK get paid the big bucks!

125- Spratley
133- Figueroa/Sakamoto/Hughes
141- Jamison/Swiderski/Hughes
149- Jamison/Swiderski
157- Travis/Swiderski/Facundo
165- Lockett/Facundo
174- Facundo/Thompson
184- Ryder/Thompson
197- Merrill
HWT- Doucet/Portal

Ryder will win vs Thompson easily. It’s more Thompson vs Facundo at 174.
People are way under rating Facundo. He won 1 of 3 wrestle offs with Kasak fairly easy. He was the number 2 overall recruit in the country. As a freshmen he beat Fish and Amine. Guy has a chance to be high up on the podium for the next 3 years. Also he was the Pan American Games U20 Champion (2022).

Really had high hopes for Thompson, but his best hopes are that Facundo sucks down to 165 and/orRyder goes to 174. Those two will be dang tough to beat out.

From a pure PAPER standpoint, this seems to get the most talent on the mat.

DISCLAIMER: I don’t see this being the actual starting lineup.

125: Spratley
133: Figueroa
141: Jamison
149: Swiderski
157: Lockett
165: Facundo
174: Ryder
184: Thompson
197: Merrill
285: Doucet

What is more likely/probable:

125: Spratley
133: Figueroa
141: Jamison
149: Swiderski
157: Travis/Robideau
165: Lockett
174: Facundo
184: Ryder
197: Merrill
285: Doucet

So most everything seems close to set, with the most talented guys not in the lineup among returning wrestlers being Hughes & Thompson.

Still watching 285 market to see what shakes out.

A lot of questions for next years lineup. Does Figs end up at OK State?
Sounds like it
Can Hughes make 133 or go up to 141?
Probably 141
What weight does Jamison wrestle, 141 or 149?
Honestly no idea on this one. I’ve heard anywhere from 141-157
Where does Swiderski fit in at?
Probably 149
What weight does Travis go if he can crack the lineup?
Probably back up to 157
Does anyone know what weight Facundo is going to wrestle 157, 165, 174 and is he good enough to start?
Probably 174 and yes
Does Lockett wrestle his true freshman year, if so what weight?
Yes and 165
Do any other true freshman break into the lineup?
Probably not but I wouldn’t be shocked if Vega and/or Robideau went
Has Thompson improved enough to break into the lineup, if so what weight, 174 or 184?
Possible but I’m not sure he beats Facundo or Ryder. His best bet is if Facundo goes 165. Then BT could go 174
Is 184 already Ryder's spot, or can someone beat him in a wrestle off?
I’d be surprised if anyone beat him.
Does anyone transfer in at HWT?
At this point I’d say no but I wasn’t expecting Figs so who knows.

Who do you see Vega knocking off?

Of the incoming Freshmen, as far as cracking the lineup, it looks like at this point:

Lockett 100%
Robideau 33% 😊 (being highly scientific)

Idk maybe Hughes. Not Jamison or Swiderski. I don’t think he will beat Hughes right off the bat but I wouldn’t be super surprised if he did. Vega is a beast.

I don't see Jamison or Swiderski at 157 being any better than Travis. He is slightly small at 157 and both those guys are smaller. I really think Robideau has a more than legit shot there, but I am the one who first threw out that Maybe Dee could go 157.

I think Hughes at 141 with now 2 years in the room if he has it between the ears could win that spot. Wouldn't shock me at all.

It seems like at this point, until proven otherwise, we can count on Jamison at 141 and Swiderski at 149. That’s what Swiderski is saying the plan is.

My concern here is that Jamison could beat Vega and Hughes in ranking matches at 141 but wouldn't have the gas tank to wrestle his best at NCAAs. I will leave it to the staff to solve that riddle.

That is the one knock on Jamison right now. If he can find that balance he is a high end AA threat IMO but it’s been twice now that hasn’t happened which isn’t a good sign.

Will be interesting to watch and see what he does this offseason.

That’s understandable. Unless someone has additional information, the plan Swiderski laid out makes it sound like this is the case.

He wasn’t managing his weight the best last year…it caught him at the end of the year.

This year, he was literally in the semis and was pushing for more scoring and Composto hooked up a funky 7 point move without enough time for Tagen to get it back…it was straight up unlucky circumstance. He is an AA kid and while his weight management was much better, it could still improve.

We are all with you Chase and would love to see it. His record is his record at this point and there are dozens of kids that could say “if this” and “but that” and I would be an AA. That’s the difference- they find a way, and Tagen has not to this point. I’m not saying give up on the guy and it is all there in front of him.

It’s like the old Sean Connery line from The Rock: “Losers talk about their best, Winners…”

Well, you know 😊

That’s fair and accurate. But im comfortable with Tagen achieving AA next year at 41.

His NCAA appearances have gone as follows:
1st - sucked brutally down with a bad nutrition plan and losing meant feeding. I don’t see this as a “loser” but more of a young kid who didn’t have the best help needed nutrition wise.
2nd - a frog’s hair away from achieving AA. Wrestled tough. AND he could still improve his cut. Scored as many team points for us as an AA.

*he AAs at this weight next year and strong AA, not 6-8.

For the record, I’m not calling him a loser. It’s the spirit of the quote.

I agree that there's no way he should have lost that match - he was literally going for the major and should have been in the semis. I might not call it unlucky though - I would call it lack of awareness on his part.

I wouldn’t call it that. I don’t know that you prepare for a move that doesn’t have a name and also have a tilt built in to it? It’s tough to be aware there?

Tagen appeared surprised as the rest of us.

You're certainly entitled to your opinion. Mine is that he put himself in a bad position and was not aware of it. I saw it coming before it happened.

What was it called? I’m not having luck finding a replay ( haven’t tried much.)

I will say, I realized it was turning into a TD advantage and saw that coming but backs surprised me and maybe that’s what I’m not clarifying.

I have only watched it live as well. If anyone finds a replay let me know and I'll take another look. By the way I like Tagen a lot and meant no disrespect. In my opinion he is the strongest 141lber in the country and uses that strength to his advantage by getting out of poor positions and finishing takedowns from less than ideal positions. I hope he can refine his positioning more in the future.

Iowa vs. OSU portal dual next year is going to be an absolute treat.

Caliendo?/Portal? Vs. Travis/Portal?
Caliendo vs. Dee

I have Sprately, one or both of of Tagen/Swiderski, 157 if Caliendo goes to 165 , Merrill and Doucet. Either 6-4 or 5-5 for cowboys.
