Next Years Lineup

The fact that Rin, who is an excellent freestyle guy, came to America to learn folkstyle makes me think he is a true student of the game. If that's true, then I expect to see big improvements from him in the next 1-2 years. If he's our 33 next year, it should be a hell of a ride
I would think if Rin can do well at 133, why would he not be able to beat Spratley at 125.

Seems feasible Rin could get to that point. Maybe after next season. But say Rin is our 133 next year, would he really go try to take Troy's spot the following year?
Things happen, but Troy isn’t leaving the lineup unless he’s in trouble or injured.

You can get in trouble with this staff if you aren’t scoring btw.

I think Troy is extremely talented but will need to show consistently and get on the podium this year.

This staff will not be afraid to recruit over anyone they don’t think can help them win a NC.

Guys like Troy and Jamison are two who need to show they can be those guys in March. Both have a great chance to point to that next week.

125 is always (less Spencer Lee) a toss up weight that can be won by any guy in the Top 10.

Troy is solidly in that group and won’t leave that group unless he’s injured or decides to quit scoring.

Yes, they can be recruited over, but good luck for a Freshman to come in and unseat Troy or Tagen.

Transfers, yes, we could transfer in over Tagen with a few guys he has a hard time beating…but those few guys aren’t coming here.

Troy, who are you going to transfer in that you are confident beats Troy soundly and regularly?

My point is if Rin can do well at 133 wrestling up a weight class, then I would think he could push or beat Troy wrestling at his best weight. Also, he is a true freshman who has never wrestled folkstyle before this year who should jump more than a level if he works hard in the next 8 months and also gets in folkstyle shape. I don't see why this take is unacceptable. So, if you guys know why this is not possible let me know. Scoring is important as you said, and Troy could not get a takedown against Daugherty or the West Virginia kid. I'm talking about next year. I am not saying that will happen but using my imagination I could see it possibly happen because Sakamoto is new to America and new to folkstyle and a true freshman. Just saying Troy has that position period doesn't make sense to me. I would think that we have no wrestlers coming back who are assured of their position. Troy is good but so far he is not real good.

That’s a poor take and I’m not sure how you’ll ever be happy. You literally think that a guy that hasn’t been ranked outside of 7 for an entire season is “not real good.”

You stated the exact reason you don’t trot Rin out over a guy that will be ranked to AA and is battle tested. He’s a complete rookie and unknown in regards to youth, folkstyle experience and normalizing to a new country.

We have a hole at 33, that’s where you take the risk with the unknown. You don’t take the unknown for the known at 25. That’s my opinion of course, but it really seems the most logical.

I don't know if Sakamoto will even be close to the same class as Spratley. Someone should know if Spratley wipes the mat in practice with Sakamoto. I am indicating that Sakamoto has the potential to jump levels in the next 8 months. I'm not saying they would give Sakamoto the 125 spot of course he would need to earn the position by beating Spratley in the room and in wrestle offs. Also if he did not wrestle good in competition at that position then he could be replaced. What in the world are you reacting so strongly to me asking a question could this happen? For me to say you are a real good college wrestler you have to be like Hendrickson, Hamiti, or a Plott. This is my definition where you are almost a sure shot to be a high All American if your not injured significantly. So, as I see it, we have 3 wrestlers who are real good wrestlers, but we have several more who could move into that place because they have that potential which would include Troy. I hope Troy wins Nationals for us but what I saw in the semi's and finals of Big 12 and much of the year was not how I define a real good wrestler. I watched Sakamoto's match against Iowa he certainly was not a real good wrestler and maybe not even a good wrestler. I just think he has more potential to jump levels before next year than about any wrestler we have on the roster. I do not mean to start a fight, but I am just talking possibilities and heck it might not even be a possibility because I have seen so little of Sakamoto.

This discussion will be more relevant in a little over a weeks time. I’m hopeful it’s with both guys coming off AA finishes.

If one or both fail to AA, it will be a discussion of if they are guys we need to look to replace. It’s the nature of the beast. I’m pulling for both.

I guess our definitions of real good are different?

A multiple time AA is a great Wrestler IMO. A single time AA is better than a very good Wrestler IMO.

A very good Wreslter is a guy gives you a chance to AA and scores points in March.

I’m not coming at you like a think any certain way, you are what you are and a very good poster. You are good for tempering expectations.

You are right I am who I am, and you are different but i have no problem with you. I am way different than 2082 but I would like us to upgrade every year like he expresses from last year's starters because I want us to beat Penn. St and we didn't beat Iowa who are not even in Penn. St league ( although they are literally in the same league) but you get my point.

PSU is going to be tough to beat, but I think we get there.

The next few years, chasing that dragon will be fun. When it turns into a team race that we can win, it’ll be so much fun it’s unreal.
