If I weighed that range and someone offered me the opportunity to actually eat, I’d be all over the move. I can’t imagine how difficult it must be to maintain 125.
It is only going to bother him if Ryder beats Welsh. Who knows if that will happen.
I’ll continue beating the drum that Spratley is a career 125. He struggles with the guys who are sucked down 133’s wrestling at 125, but I also think that’s his secret weapon that let him make it to the finals. He didn’t have to kill himself for 3 straight days to make weight, unlike guys like Strickenberger at WVU.
184 will be a really really fun weight. A ton of great young talent. The best guys are likely redshirt freshman and sophomores.

That simply is not true lol. I think most people are saying that they wish he had stayed and fought for the job. He didn't. Right or wrong, one can infer from that that he didn't feel confident enough to win the job. That is a reasonable statement to make. It not like Cael's motto isn't, "let the best man win". So Zach knew the rules of the game. No need to blame Cael or anyone else. Zach decided he'd like greener pastures and that is what he did. Good luck to him.
I did not find many matches of Ryder so far, I did watch him wrestle Arnold, Thompson, 4 matches at the U17 Worlds where he won a bronze, 4 matches last year when he won a silver at U20 Worlds and a match when he was at 152 with Sealy. Almost all of these matches were freestyle matches. Ryder is strong, he has good defense and his conditioning is good. He can score with strength throws, go arounds, grab a leg and had a great double when he was behind in the semi's of the U20 Worlds. In these matches scoring off a shot is rare. In the finals of U20 in the 3rd period when he was behind, he got on his opponents' legs at least twice, but his opponent scored both times. Of course he was wrestling an U20 World Champ. If he develops some shots, he can score with he will be a National Champ because he his many assets. Coach Taylor is just the Coach to work with Ryder.

Yeap, he needs to improve his offense. He is not long like Hamiti, so he has to find other ways. Hopefully DT can improve his offense.
I watched a few of his matches at the scuffle this year. In my eyes he didn't look like a full size 184, but still held his own strength wise. I'm assuming Dee is going to wrestle this year, if not i could see Facundo 65,Ryder 74 and BT 84 this year.
When our fans do something stupid, the opponent fans look at them and laugh. This time PSU fans are doing something stupid, so we laugh at them.
That's certainly fair. In addition one could infer that Zack put a massive amount of blood sweat and tears into PSU so that he could replace Starocci and do PSU proud and he felt betrayed when Cael "recruited over" him. We also don't know how much of a factor money played into the decision. We may never know.
I don't think Cael is real upset because he has a National runner-up for that position. They have Barr and Mirasola at 197 and if something happened to Rocco 1 of them could cut down to 84. Penn. St. is not hurt but we are likely better if Ryder beats Thompson. I will say this that it is possible this motivates Thompson who has lots of ability, to work much harder and can stick with Ryder. I have not seen anything for a couple of years that makes me think that Thompson will do this, but the potential is there.

No reason for anyone to be upset at this situation. PSU got Rocco, we got Zack. Both studs. It worked out for all of us. I think Zack reached out to DT, similar way Rocco reached out to Cael.

You are right almost all of the matches I watched were where he wrestles at about 174. He is strong and big enough to wrestle 184 though and that's what he would have wrestled next year at Penn. St.
And Iowa because Iowa fans always tend to be pissed.

This one is either going to make it look like Cael can't be wrong as a coach or it is going to show that he is human and can make a bad decision. I guess that depends on Ryder and Welsh's seasons. Very high risk and low reward decision by Cael. Because if Ryder ends up having the better season, Cael may lose others he has done the same too. I honestly hope it goes Ryder's way.
Yup. The tide has turned and there's a clear majority of commenters now who question his character and mental fortitude. They're very defensive and are revolted by the mere suggestion that Cael is anything less than an infallible god.
But to be generous, message board types are not always representative of the broader fan base. The other thing is it's still new and they're dealing with it. I think (hope) it'll calm down and most will come to their senses by the time next season starts.

Both. I have several friends who went from not knowing what a takedown is or how many points you get for one to now watching every dual and planning trips to NCAAs next year. I have to believe there are high-level donors in the same boat.
The money has to be rolling in faster than we can count it. It also helps that football, basketball, and baseball are in the crapper. Donors don't want to throw good money after bad.
I was looking forward to seeing one of our current roster guys try their hand at 133, but I won't complain if Figs comes and slots in there. I would have been pissed if he was coming to compete with Troy though
It’s one year. And if you can RS Jax or if he keeps growing then you have a weight that Rin and Ronnie Ram have to wrestle for. Id be great with that
Hopefully, he'll be able to manage 157 next year. That's our best lineup and wouldn't be a huge cut for him.
Jax is a junior this year, so not starting until 26-27 season.
