Figs seemed to struggle with weight and injuries this year. He looks big and my guess it would be at 133. Think Hamati.
You might see the following:Do y'all have a sense for whether Blaze is happy to redshirt or not? I think Ono is just as likely to be 141 as 133
If I weighed that range and someone offered me the opportunity to actually eat, I’d be all over the move. I can’t imagine how difficult it must be to maintain 125.Figs seemed to struggle with weight and injuries this year. He looks big and my guess it would be at 133. Think Hamati.
It is only going to bother him if Ryder beats Welsh. Who knows if that will happen.I think you're putting too much thought into this. I'm sure it bothers Cael a little. Who wants to lose a guy. Inviting Welsh into the room in the first place means this was one possible, and acceptable, outcome. Time will tell how it turns out.
I’ll continue beating the drum that Spratley is a career 125. He struggles with the guys who are sucked down 133’s wrestling at 125, but I also think that’s his secret weapon that let him make it to the finals. He didn’t have to kill himself for 3 straight days to make weight, unlike guys like Strickenberger at WVU.I completely forgot he was even out there. If he was coming to osu he would have to agree to it in advance or Sprately make the decision to bump up. If he came I think the main ? Marks on AA would now be 157 and hwt. Would feel darn good about the other 8 spots.
184 will be a really really fun weight. A ton of great young talent. The best guys are likely redshirt freshman and sophomores. It is only going to bother him if Ryder beats Welsh. Who knows if that will happen.
Normally I would agree, but this time I don’t think it’s few bad apples. The majority of the Zack Ryder PSU thread thinks he is suddenly weak or entitled for feeling betrayed. There's a few posters over there saying that, but the majority wish Ryder well and have nothing but respect for him and wish he would've stayed to battle it out with Rocco. Don't let a few Negative Nellies speak for the entire fanbase. Unfortunately no matter where you go, the negative ones, even if they're in the minority, seem to get more attention than the positives.
Personally, I think it's great for the sport to see DT doing what he's doing and what he's very quickly building. Yes, it's making me nervous.
That simply is not true lol. I think most people are saying that they wish he had stayed and fought for the job. He didn't. Right or wrong, one can infer from that that he didn't feel confident enough to win the job. That is a reasonable statement to make. It not like Cael's motto isn't, "let the best man win". So Zach knew the rules of the game. No need to blame Cael or anyone else. Zach decided he'd like greener pastures and that is what he did. Good luck to him.Normally I would agree, but this time I don’t think it’s few bad apples. The majority of the Zack Ryder PSU thread thinks he is suddenly weak or entitled for feeling betrayed.
I did not find many matches of Ryder so far, I did watch him wrestle Arnold, Thompson, 4 matches at the U17 Worlds where he won a bronze, 4 matches last year when he won a silver at U20 Worlds and a match when he was at 152 with Sealy. Almost all of these matches were freestyle matches. Ryder is strong, he has good defense and his conditioning is good. He can score with strength throws, go arounds, grab a leg and had a great double when he was behind in the semi's of the U20 Worlds. In these matches scoring off a shot is rare. In the finals of U20 in the 3rd period when he was behind, he got on his opponents' legs at least twice, but his opponent scored both times. Of course he was wrestling an U20 World Champ. If he develops some shots, he can score with he will be a National Champ because he his many assets. Coach Taylor is just the Coach to work with Ryder.Going to watch a large amount of Zack Ryder videos on youtube now.
Sure you can. At the same time, I can refer back to the Christian Carroll thread on this very board and come up with similar comments. What's the point? Fans being fans? lollol of course you are here defending. I can’t copy paste loads and loads of posts from 18 pages. Your gaslighting won’t work. It’s open board we all can go read it.
Majority of the board wants him to stay and fight for the starting spot. Even though if he loses, it will cost him a year. Somehow you guys imagine Zack side is not telling the truth when his mom says they were blindsided with all this. Cael did not handle the communication well. He ain’t god. He is not going to get everything right all the time.
Yeap, he needs to improve his offense. He is not long like Hamiti, so he has to find other ways. Hopefully DT can improve his offense.I did not find many matches of Ryder so far, I did watch him wrestle Arnold, Thompson, 4 matches at the U17 Worlds where he won a bronze, 4 matches last year when he won a silver at U20 Worlds and a match when he was at 152 with Sealy. I watched a few of his matches at the scuffle this year. In my eyes he didn't look like a full size 184, but still held his own strength wise. I'm assuming Dee is going to wrestle this year, if not i could see Facundo 65,Ryder 74 and BT 84 this year.I did not find many matches of Ryder so far, I did watch him wrestle Arnold, Thompson, 4 matches at the U17 Worlds where he won a bronze, 4 matches last year when he won a silver at U20 Worlds and a match when he was at 152 with Sealy. When our fans do something stupid, the opponent fans look at them and laugh. This time PSU fans are doing something stupid, so we laugh at them.Sure you can. At the same time, I can refer back to the Christian Carroll thread on this very board and come up with similar comments. What's the point? Fans being fans? lol
That's certainly fair. In addition one could infer that Zack put a massive amount of blood sweat and tears into PSU so that he could replace Starocci and do PSU proud and he felt betrayed when Cael "recruited over" him. We also don't know how much of a factor money played into the decision. We may never know. That simply is not true lol. I think most people are saying that they wish he had stayed and fought for the job. He didn't. Right or wrong, one can infer from that that he didn't feel confident enough to win the job. So is Levi Haynes def staying put at psu? Also, a very random question as someone asked me and I really don’t know. How tall is Hendrickson?I watched a few of his matches at the scuffle this year. In my eyes he didn't look like a full size 184, but still held his own strength wise. I'm assuming Dee is going to wrestle this year, if not i could see Facundo 65,Ryder 74 and BT 84 this year.
I don't think Cael is real upset because he has a National runner-up for that position. They have Barr and Mirasola at 197 and if something happened to Rocco 1 of them could cut down to 84. Penn. St. is not hurt but we are likely better if Ryder beats Thompson. I will say this that it is possible this motivates Thompson who has lots of ability, to work much harder and can stick with Ryder. I have not seen anything for a couple of years that makes me think that Thompson will do this, but the potential is there.I think you're putting too much thought into this. I'm sure it bothers Cael a little. Who wants to lose a guy. Inviting Welsh into the room in the first place means this was one possible, and acceptable, outcome. Time will tell how it turns out.
You are right almost all of the matches I watched were where he wrestles at about 174. He is strong and big enough to wrestle 184 though and that's what he would have wrestled next year at Penn. St.I watched a few of his matches at the scuffle this year. In my eyes he didn't look like a full size 184, but still held his own strength wise. And Iowa because Iowa fans always tend to be pissed. No reason for anyone to be upset at this situation. PSU got Rocco, we got Zack. Both studs. It worked out for all of us. I think Zack reached out to DT, similar way Rocco reached out to Cael.
Only one upset with this situation might be Ohio state.

Now that slumlord bob has a $ figure in mind you might be in trouble.Haines leaving would be absolutely shocking. Consdering his ties to the area, it probably would take something like this:

Surprised that Zach transferred? Yes.
Surprised at how some of the fans reacted to it? No.
Personally I wish he would have stayed for 1 year and tried to beat out Rocco. But that's just me being selfish. Who knows, maybe Zach really wanted to wrestle for David and this was his push out the door to fulfill that opportunity. We don't know his reasoning and can only speculate. Either way, as fans we should respect it.
This one is either going to make it look like Cael can't be wrong as a coach or it is going to show that he is human and can make a bad decision. I guess that depends on Ryder and Welsh's seasons. Very high risk and low reward decision by Cael. Because if Ryder ends up having the better season, Cael may lose others he has done the same too. I honestly hope it goes Ryder's way.I was. I would have hoped all PSU wrestlers would have stayed and fought for the starter position. I wish Zach the best to finish second.
Yup. The tide has turned and there's a clear majority of commenters now who question his character and mental fortitude. They're very defensive and are revolted by the mere suggestion that Cael is anything less than an infallible god.Normally I would agree, but this time I don’t think it’s few bad apples. The majority of the Zack Ryder PSU thread thinks he is suddenly weak or entitled for feeling betrayed.
OMG. Please, please,please...
I'm betting a HWT and a 157.I bet at this rate we get a heavyweight at some point.
I honestly think we stay with KD at this point. There are only a few guys you take and at this point and they either aren’t coming or aren’t leaving.I bet at this rate we get a heavyweight at some point.
Both. I have several friends who went from not knowing what a takedown is or how many points you get for one to now watching every dual and planning trips to NCAAs next year. I have to believe there are high-level donors in the same boat.Holy cow! Do we have the money to pull these guys in or are they coming here more bc of DT?
It’s one year. And if you can RS Jax or if he keeps growing then you have a weight that Rin and Ronnie Ram have to wrestle for. Id be great with thatI was looking forward to seeing one of our current roster guys try their hand at 133, but I won't complain if Figs comes and slots in there. I would have been pissed if he was coming to compete with Troy though
Hopefully, he'll be able to manage 157 next year. That's our best lineup and wouldn't be a huge cut for him. He’ll probably go 174 eventually but he should be able to make 165 a year or so
Jax is a junior this year, so not starting until 26-27 season. It’s one year. And if you can RS Jax or if he keeps growing then you have a weight that Rin and Ronnie Ram have to wrestle for. Id be great with that
