Michigan State open

Also, I could be wrong, but based on the different uniforms seen for different guys DT has set up a "earn it to wear" heirarchy for uniforms and I kinda love that.
Not sure what you mean. Generally by rules team has to wear same singlet each round, unattached would be different. Since its an open might not be team scoring, the team rule may not apply for this one. Usually save orange for final medal round

Speaking of Freshman, Cody Merrill won 19 to 5. Lots of takedowns but most of them occurred outside the cameras view. So I don't have much to say except Merrill was dominant. Very frustrating missing out on so much wrestling because of the camera set up.

Doucette beat Khurshidov of Michigan 5 to 0 with an escape, 3 point near fall and a riding time point. Good match but no takedowns although Konnor was close on a shot.

Jersey won by major in the quarters with an easy win. He wears his opponents down and scores a lot more points later in the match. He is very strong and very quick.

Speaking of 184, Thompson not making weight makes 1 wonder if he still lacks discipline and commitment. I hope we stop seeing these signs that bring concern. Also I wonder why he didn't wrestle 197 if he didn't make weight at 84.

I don't remember anyone wearing all black with no logo, even as unattached or in a weak tournament.

Tagen Jamison had a good match against Nathan Jerore of Michigan winning 11-2 to make the finals. Caleb Fish up in a few minutes in a semifinal against Flo #12 Johnny Lovett of Central Michigan

Fish and Lovett first period - no score, not a ton of action. 2nd period Fish down, up easy to go up 1-0. Lovett looks way bigger. Lovett takes him down with a minute to go in the period to go up 3-1. Gets an escape after 20 seconds or so, Lovett up 3-2. 3rd period Lovett down, out easy to go up 4-2. Lovett way more active offensively, almost gets a double leg that Fish fights off well, heard a "go get em fishy!" Lovett in on a single with 10 seconds left that burns out the period. OK showing against a ranked guy for a backup. Jersey Robb up in a couple minutes in a semifinal

Tagen won by major and the 1st 4 and a half minutes he looked like the guy who last year finished poorly. Then at the end of the 2nd period he gets a powerful double leg takedown. In the 3rd period he gets 2 takedowns for the major. Hughes wins with a solid major in the semi's with 3 takedowns. McComas seemed very dominant in his win.

184 Semis: Jersey Robb v. Jared McGill (Edinboro). McGill is #36 according to wrestlestat, and was 16-4 last year at 174 but didnt make the NCAA Tournament. Quick takedown and release by Robb 3-1. Not much else for period. McGill down, out pretty quick 3-2. Robb very active, almost gets another takedown but McGill fights him off, 3rd Robb down, McGill gets a leg in and rides for a bit before Robb escapes - 4-2. Mcgill in on a leg, Robb fights him off hard, but gives up the TD with 41 seconds left. Restart at 30 seconds Robb down 5-4 and bottom Out with 20 seconds left to tie it up 5-5. Robb shoots but nothing - to OT we go. Robb head snaps to a go behind in 10 seonds to win it!

Semis 197: Cody Merrill vs. Remy Cotton (Michigan State). Merrill wins 8-7 on a riding time point, Ill have to go back and watch

157 Consi Semis: Caleb Fish v Brock Herman (Ohio State): Fish wearing a USA Wrestling singlet rather than the solid black the others are wearing. Mostly positioning and snaps and hand fighting for P1. No score to end. Herman down to start P2. Couple of granbys, Fish stays on top and rolls through with him. Reverses Fish to his back with about 40 seconds left to go up 6-0(!). Rides him out. Fish down, escapes in 20, 6-1. Fish gets a TD and quick cut with a minute left. 7-4. Herman with a nice double and slam to go up 10-4. restart 38 seconds left. Fish down. Cuts him 10-5. Herman gets a leg, Fish fights hard to get the TD and cut 11-8 loss.

133 (Open Finals): Cael Hughes v. Zan Fugitt (Wisconsin): Ties and handfighting for first half, a couple of shots that go nowhere before Hughes gets in deep for the TD with 1 minute left. Action goes off camera (how hard is it to move camera an inch?) Fugitt almost gets out on a restart, but Hughes returns him to Mat and almost gets him to his back. Rides him out. 3-0 with 59 seconds RT. Hughes down to start P2. out pretty quick 4-0. Halfhearted shot by Fugit to end period that Hughes fights off easy. Neutral to start P3. Hughes in deep on a leg, lifts him off ground, then finally gets the TD. 7-0. Fugitt escapes right at 1 minute RT. 7-1. Hughes gets another leg, but they go off the mat with 30 seconds left. Fugitt gets an ankle, Hughes fights him off for a bit, but gives up the TD with 10 seconds left and stays off his back. 7-4 win! Champ #1!

133 (Open): Zach Blankenship v. Markel Baker (N. Illinois) - 5th place match: No Score after 1. Zach down. Out after 14 seconds. 1-0. No score to end P2. Baker down, out quick to tie up 1-1. Baker almost gest a leg but Zach backs out. Restart at 50 seconds. Zach being aggressive at end of period. On to OT. Zach gets a leg but falls down and loses the TD and gives up one. Shoulda had that one.

141 (Open Final): Tagen Jamison v. Gabriel Bouyssou (Spartan Combat): Tagen gets the first leg 30 seconds in and gets a TD (off camera-ugh!). 3-0. Puts on a hard ride and goes over a minute before cutting. 3-1. Tagen hooks up a cradle! 6-1, then works to a pin! Champ #2!

NOTE: Bouyssou was Flo #62 overall in Class of 24

P.S. Bouyssou was Flo #62 overall in Class of 24
That inside trip to the cradle was NASTY! 👊🏻

Hughes really does a nice job of getting a leg and his opponent is sprawling but he still sucks the opponent up for the takedown. He was very sloppy giving up that takedown at the end. Four matches at 134 and did not see any problem with conditioning. As Bob wrote Jamison get a cradle hooked up on his 2nd takedown for the pin. I did not see any problem with conditioning for Jamison either.

149 (Open 3rd Place): Cutter Sheets v. Aidan Torres: Cutter gets a TD and ride out (1:45) for a 3-0 lead. Torres down. Out fairly quick, 3-1. Sheets gets a leg, then works behind for the TD, 6-1. Rides him out. Sheets down for P3. Out easy (7-1). RT Locked 8-1. Gets in a scramble, then works to a TD. 11-1 with RT. The mat workers stink BTW. Cuts him. 11-2, gets another TD 14-2 final.

197 (Open Final): Cody Merrill v. Evan Bates (Northwestern) (Flo #24 and NCAA qualifier last year, 4th year Jr.): Lots of good action to start 1. but gets blown dead for a mat cleanup. Good ties and handfighting. Getting feisty. Another stoppage this time for blood on Cody. Restart, then another stoppage for a mat cleanup and blood. Ugh. Restart, Bates had kind of a whizzer but couldn't get behind, Another stoppage for cleanup. He's a bleeder folks! P1 finally ends 0-0 but plenty of action between stoppages. Cody bottom. on his feet quick, but eventually returned. Back on his feet, but cant get out and goes OOB. Restart - up fast again, granbys to a leg of Bates, Bates kicks out. 1-0 (Bates with 1:09 RT). Period ends. Bates down. Cody gest him under a minute, barely, then gives up the escape 1-1. Other two first place matches starting so I'll have to go back to them. Cody gets a TD! 4-1 - cuts him after a few seconds. 4-2. Cody gets off balance and almost gives up a TD, but goes OOB. Champ #3!

HWT (Open Finals): Konnor Doucet v. Jordan Greer (Ohio): Turn it over. Its 30 seconds left in period 3. 1-0 lead for Doucet. What a shocker. Doucet rides Greer the entire P3. 2-0. Typical Konnor. Champ #4!
