I believe they are already repealing the hotel/motel tax from the bill and I'm not sure if/how they are going to replace that revenue. It takes 20 something years to implement new taxes and takes 48 hours to start cutting them again.

Removed already...

I was caught off guard by that tax being removed. I am assuming that there is either a hotel/motel lobby that I am not aware of or the travel peeps for the cities of Tulsa and OKC put pressure on the legislators.

Either way, I was surprised that one got pulled.

Not a Fallin fan at all, but that’s Trump level shit. Well played.

I CALLED THIS. Beulah knows the public will say, "They just got a raise, I'm strapped and they want more?" They passed substantial increases. Compromised, but still substantial. The teachers need to bank this, make hay in November, and come back next year with their hair on fire again. That's from someone that wants way more teacher pay and incentives.

I saw a tweet of the gallery at the legislature and 1/4 of it was the hotel industry. So there's tons of the industry showing up at the capitol to raise hell.

Mary Failling, or Mattress Mary as that slut is known in the capitol, is universally hated. She signed all those tax cuts that put Oklahoma in a hole.

That quote spread like fire in our school today. Reinforced the desire for a walkout.

Who stays in hotels/motels?

Oil field workers. That would add up quickly so that’s the lobby you are looking for.

For what it's worth from something I watched/heard yesterday, the $5/day would put Tulsa/OKC at a higher tax rate than NYC. Certainly makes sense to me.

Mary Fallin will be old news soon enough. Talk some sense to your peers so as to not squander current goodwill.

How dare those greedy bastards showing up to complain about being singled out to pay more in taxes! Who do they think they are?

Bitter, its called the chamber of commerce.......$5 a night tax is freaking nothing! Traveling a lot overseas you should see the "occupancy tax" you would pay in Australia, Singapore, Vienna, Paris etc. New York has a number of taxes on hotel stay.

It’s a stupid tax and one that doesn’t ultimately serve the purpose intended. It’s generally a way for politicians to tax residents from other states instead of our own people. Problem is, other states, in turn, donthe same thing. It’s just dumb, but since all surrounding states already do it, I’m baffled as to why our idiots removed it immediately after passing. It wouldn’t make a difference at all in tourism.

New York is about 15% + a fixed fee of about $3.50. Where the $5.00 idea was probably a bit unfair was on cheap rooms ( 16.5% on a $30 room) being at the same tax as a $200.00 room (2.5%).
