I'll give you Hillary, but she's a special case given her Husband's status as a prior POTUS. Romney was a presidential candidate from 2012 (not just a primary loser). There are numerous examples of the candidate of the losing party remaining in power. Just look at Al Gore. Although, I'd note that since Trump took office, Romney doesn't seem to wield much GOP influence/power. Bernie Sanders would be nothing more than another Rick Santorum this year if not for the email leak. At least that's my opinion.

I hope they throw "the book" at her to send a message to others. However, they will likely let her plea to something minor being scared she will expose in open court other questionable things they are doing.

That piece omits some key facts to bend toward some conspiracy. Namely that she was arrested within an hour of publication. It's quite public that what tipped them off was the phone calls from the Intercept looking for comments on the document days earlier.

I'm not settled on anything about this chick, partly because some things don't add up.

She's extremely intelligent. She plead not-guilty. She all but confessed to her mom in a recorded jail conversation. Huh?

And her lawyer sounds like a complete half-wit describing her as a 'millennial that understands technology'. If she's all that intelligent I'd expect her to fire that moron and get a lawyer with a clue... Unless she can't afford a good lawyer? Dunno.

If she's really all that intelligent (and being a linguist specializing in multiple non-Latin languages suggests at least some likelihood), then she has a painful lack of situational awareness. Railing against the president as a contractor with top secret clearance is crazy dumb.

Heck, just because I applied for and received Global Entry I fully expect the NSA to monitor my social media presence proactively. You KNOW anyone with a clearance is being monitored, right? I'd be shocked if there was proof otherwise.

You may be spot on. Something about the whole deal seems weird to me though and I can't really articulate why. And that's not an attempt to imply some sort of conspiracy, it just seems like an odd progression of events.
