He's only using the 2 dimensional model of reality you cling to. In essence, he's speaking your language so that you have the ability to understand the idea he's conveying (based on your scope for interpreting anything).
When you start layering in almost infinite dimensions, note outliers, rank-order the dimensions, and interpret reality from the results, then you'll start making more sense and have broader understanding.
