It's March MATness

He has White/Ashworth right before the blood round. I would probably actually pick him over Ashworth this time around if he looks good the prior matches but who knows.

I think if Joe or Chandler could have made 57 and boo stayed healthy allowing G to go to 41 we would beat Penn st.

Who is on the NCAA championship rankings committee?

Lot of ifs but it would make it a much closer race. In reality neither Joe or Chandler could of made 157 in any healthy manner or a manner in which they could wreslte at a high level.

Second place will be a fight because based on draws and seeds I see us going out at 141, 165 and 184 early. Any upsets among our big guns and we could slip to 3-5th pretty easily.

Very true. I think what separates us is guys like Joe, Kaid, G and Greer. If a couple of those guys go on any kid of run and our big guns show up we could run away with second. If finish below third something went really bad IMO.

The bracket sets up for Geer to do just that. Joe just has a brutal draw to score much. Kaids is tough but intriguing.

The lineup shift really, really hurts us in the team race. If Joe, Jacobe and Greer had representative seeds I really think we would run away with second.

I've poured over the brackets...the NCAA gave PSU and Ohio State insurance, they injured OSU and Iowa.

Kaid has a tough route, his fault. GFeller has a tough route, their fault. We don't have a 57, their fault. Joe got screwed. Geer wasn't done any favors.

Fix, eh, it's okay. Jacobe, is okay, even though I'd rather him see Lewis later. Weigel, I'm good. White, I'm good.

Kaid needs to get to R12. GFeller deserves to AA. Sheets deserved to be in over several guys that are in. Joe has to get after it and can AA. Geer surprises folks.

I'm pumped!

Working on my brackets now but not as optimistic. I am not seeing a champion even though we have two #1's. Fix is in the toughest bracket of the tournament. He has been my favorite wrestler in the last few years both in high school and college and freestyle and I would rarely count him out of a match but it will be a challenge and I see one loss and a 3rd place finish. I also see Gable Steveson as the champ at 285 with White finishing as AA. Gfeller did not show me he was healthy in the Big 12 and maybe outside the top eight. Pic in the finals but losing to Rivera. Weigel could definitely make the finals but I see no one close to Nickal. I do not see Joe Smith as a placer and same goes for Kaid and Geer. Jacobe Will AA but this is a top heavy bracket and do not see him higher than 5th or 6th. I would like to put back on my orange colored glasses but no one is going to be close to Penn State this year. I see us as a third or fourth place finisher which is still much better than last year and I believe we will be better next year and in two years we will be back as one of the annual favorites. I hope I am way too pessimistic in my predictions but this is the realistic Obe this year. However, talk to me the day the tournament starts and I may see three or four champions and a first place team finish.

LETS GO POKES!!!
I predicted 5 AA's above and no champions and that was my most pessimistic post of all time. I was right in numbers of Champions and AA's but wrong on the placers and placements. Fix was 2nd and not third. Kaid came closer at 141 then I would have predicted so I give both kudos for placing higher than I thought. I also give kudos to Pic in another really tough bracket but Lee was far and away the best 125 pounder in this tournament and not the same wrestler that Pic pinned in Stillwater.
I love Daton Fix but I have to admit both times he has wrestled Suriano he employed the same very conservative strategy. He squeaked by in the first match and the strategy failed in the second match. I see the argument about the stoppage in the overtime and I tend to agree that that lost him the match. I did not see the headgear incident in real time and just not convinced that was the reason for the loss. The reason for the loss in my opinion is the conservatism and riding the out of bounds the entire match. Objectively, he stalled way more than Suriano(I know he made more shots but they were ineffective. Suriano kept the pressure on and this may have weighed into the ref's decision to call a stale-mate in overtime. If there is a next time I think you wrestle much more aggressively and let the chips fall where they may.
Kaden was tentative for his last several matches of the season and in the tournament due to an injury and that went into my decision to not predict him as an All-American. Joe's off season decisions definitely affected 165 some of which could also be as a result of Weigel's injury and indecision. I am not going to second guess John's decision to let Chandler and Joe rank as after all this seemed to be the fairest thing to do but I believe we would have scored more points and possibly placed if Chandler would have been chosen as our wrestler at 165.
John indicated that Jacobe was injured in the interim week between the Big 12 and Nationals which was evident in the way he wrestled. Hate this more for Jacobe than for the team and I honor his committment for the entire time he was a Cowboy.
Number Nine in another thread said Dakota Geer was the best wrestler of the tournament for us and I agree whole-heartedly. Kudos to Dakota and looking forward to two more years of hard work and tenacity from him.
Preston was outstanding in every match but one and that was and is a very bad matchup for him. He lost to Moore last year in the same manner. He showed great courage in coming back from injury and I truly appreciated his whole career at OK State. Derek White was in the finals. I did not predict him to win rather I predicted
Steveson to win in the finals. Cassar defeated Steveson both times they wrestled and deserved to be in the finals. His six point move against White was the difference and the match was never in doubt after that. Thanks to Derek White and all the Cowboys that wrestled. We finished third, far better than last year, and I have renewed hope for the coming two years. I will be much more optimistic in the future which is my natural bent.
LETS GO POKES!!!
