It's done. Gundy remains

You do have to go further back each year to aid in your argument here…

In our 7 year peak we were 43-20 in conference games. The last 7 years (pretty long stretch) we are 33-30.

3 games over .500 in the big 12 the last 7 years….
7 year peak included Holgy and Monken 3 years for 19-7.

So we're back to where we started. Stuck with a polarizing coach that has been trending in the wrong direction for years is now suddenly going to get it all figured out tomorrow. Right.

Training wheels back on…

Even the Gundy apologists on this board are smart enough to not gloat knowing what next year will bring.

Up until today, Gundy unilaterally shouldered this shit show. Not anymore.
This is about the very same thing Michigan did with Jim Harbaugh. Worked out pretty well.

OSU and Michigan are worlds apart from those magical couple of Harbaugh years. We aren’t sniffing the CFP for a good long while after this 0-9 conference season, and the jackass this institution just backed is NOT the answer in 2025.

True, I don’t expect OSU to go on a NC run, but wasn’t Michigan like 2-4 in that COVID season and then flipped the switch pretty quick?

This portal and NIL era is a a double edged sword, but if we have a few extra mil to throw at NIL and coordinators, I have more hope to rebuild quickly now then I would’ve in the old format.

Having money to throw at good players and coaches seems to cure all lol.

Harbaugh was before Michigan and after one of the best coaches in all of football. Gundy ain’t even the best coach in the state of Oklahoma.

hey guys, it's a new day. If Gundy does what he should, bottom line "win", then this was a growing and necessary step. If he doesn't, then a more controlled and professional search for the next coach will happen. So, you have to give it a chance and observe. Gundy has a lot to do. We've got a new ball game....new rules, new expectations, new day.
Or we just kicked the can down the road for another year or two or three…

I appreciate the hope and all that, but all we did was delay the inevitable

So you’re expecting Gundy to win a NC?

Because this isn’t the same, at all.
Nope! We weren’t cheating enough 🤣🤣

I will volunteer as the Connor Stallions of Oklahoma St

We might need to cheat to win 7-8 games next year

Honestly not sure if consulting Saban is a good idea or not.

He always had the Jimmie’s and Joe’s but some of his assistant coaching choices were bad imo.
Plus. Usually you refer buddies. But sometimes the best assistants aren’t the greatest of friends. Similar to Holgerson/Gundy

It does present a more difficult sell to top tier coordinators and players who will have options to come here because of what happened this week.

That isn’t earth shattering news or some wild take. Now it’s not a program altering deal but we didn’t help ourselves this week no getting around that.
Amateur hour.

Need some sign stealers.

How exactly does Gundy compete in a NIL age when he shit all over donors last year? Hell we seemed to fundraise at light speed when his possible firing was on the table. That’s a problem. He better start kissing donor ass (like any competent coach in this age) and get everyone pulling in the same direction instead of dividing everyone.

I think you answered your own question. Will he do that? Idk. Ideally whatever guardrails are in this new deal will require it, but who knows

that's the big question....of many. Will he do what it takes. If not, he should be on a short leash. He can delegate some of that, so maybe that's his plan. You just hope there aren't more leaks in the roof than you have buckets.

Imagine you've been a HC of a P4 team for 20 years and need help finding good coordinators.

Ha… I’m so peeved over yesterday I hadn’t even made it this far down the road yet.

I was dreading taking my 9yo son to a three hour Pokémon tournament today but after all these new realizations this morning I think I’d rather watch the kids have fun than continue the trip down this rabbit hole

Hopefully it is someone on the BoR.

Their actions today resemble a monkey attempting to impregnate a football
I believe they succeeded in gaining leverage over an employee that they didn’t have at the beginning of the day. It took a stare down and willingness to fire him, but it was serious enough our arrogant self-serving coach blinked first. They sent a message that people in the regents group and donors are ready to fire Gundy if improvements in his coaching and representation of the university and football program don’t improve! He’s now aware he has a short leash and we will see if he can improve things moving forward. If not, he will be shown the door!

It became public because Gundy, in typical fashion, chose to make it so. I’m sure that was noted for future reference and I can guarantee you they anticipated he would do just that because if anything, we got to this point due to Gundy’s actions and mouth.

For these reasons, I think yesterday’s exercise was successful in gaining control of the employer -employee relationship as it should be and therefore was a BOR success.

No, because no one is really sure what action the BoR will have to take to finalize/formalize everything.

Makes sense and then it scares me beyond puckered. Thanks!

Oh before I forgot again this morning. A shout out on your coverage yesterday along with @dtspoke, @dignon003, @osu2082 (and I am probably forgetting someone) was off the charts good. It was easy to forget since this site according to some is silent without representation (paraphrasing here) because it is not worth the effort to quote some dumbass yahoo.

Yesterday was a PR disaster and probably pissed off the donors who pledged to fund a buyout.

Until we know the terms of the new contract there is no way to know if anything has actually improved or if there’s just a lot more lipstick on the pig.

It was not a win.
