Who you got?

Does it escalate to full scale war across Northern Iraq/Syria?

Does the whole middle east jump in if it does go full out war? Who ends up on whose side?

If Russia jumps in, how hard do they get involved? If we get involved does it escalate worldwide?

I'm not sure what is going to happen, but would enjoy the discussion as I would think as Americans, we may have different opinions that are not necessarily down party lines.

The premise that Israel uses the US to fight their wars is one theory. My theory is Israel is our buffer to fight the Muslims over there and absorb a lot of the hate so they use resources attacking Israel and not planning another 9/11.

Islam is ate up with Israeli hate and a war will be a healthy blood letting for the region. Wwi and then wwii ushered in a calm and peace for Europe who had been warring in perpetuity. Hell they went from killing each other as fast as they could to joining a European Union in less than fifty years.

Are the Muslims interested in becoming civilized enough to get along and help themselves become economically prosperous or will their incessant inbreading prohibit that?

I cite the racist New York Times:

I'd be curious what would happen should a war between these two break out. KSA is already in a proxy war in Yemen against Iran. Do they side with Iran in Islamic support, do they align to hated Israel, or do they try to abstain and remain neutral. Based on KSA's actions, UAE, Kuwait, and the other smaller middle eastern countries would likely follow suit. Jordan and Egypt however, would likely see Suni/Shiite civil wars break out.

It would be an amazing mess.

I’m pretty sure than Saudi Arabia won’t agree with Iran on much these days since Iran keeps suppling Yemen rebels with missiles that get routinely lobbed at Saudi Arabia.

They might not take a side with Israel, but they definitely won’t be supporting Iran in any shape or form for the near future.

Saudi’s are already collaborating with Israel...promise somewhere in the kingdom there is an airstrip that Israel uses and would launch an attack from.

Mossad + Shin Bet + back against the wall mentality = a win over religious dbags every time.

Don’t believe Russia would get involved in any way except materially. Supply lines for a full blown war are pretty tenuous and while they could possibly swing Turkey into tertiary support doubt that would happen because the Russians still loath them for The Crimean war and support they got from the West. Anything that flowed through Iran would have to go air, over or around countries friendly (to dependent on US support or aid) or ocean from Iran and there is no way those supplies would survive a journey all the way to a Syrian ports.

Reigning powers after WWI cause most, if not all, the current issues via the Balfour Agreement, which partitioned the ME up into incongruent boundaries against tribal and religious lines. Those same powers better jump in and support Israel’s right for sovereignty and perpetual existence. Not holding my breath though. Certainly France, Britan and Germany, to the greatest degree, would have worry about internal attacks from all those peaceful critters they have allowed to immigrate if they did jump in.

The biggest thing in Israel’s favor is the fact the muslims don’t even trust each other. There is a good book out called “The Two O’Clock War,” its about the Yom Kippur War. The Syrians wanted to attack at sunrise because the sun would be in The Israel’s eyes and the Egyptians wanted to attack at sunset for the same reason. They settled for an attack at two-o’clock, which ensured neither attacking force would have that advantage. You would probably see the same type of distrust, except Egypt, Iraq, Jordan, Saudi and others wouldn’t be funneling troops/material into a conflict. Syria alone, with or without Russian help, is to isolated and fractured to stand a chance.

And before you try to crawdad away with a Northern Africa/Barbary Coast ain’t the Middle East in your book claim...many of the pirates of the Barbary were from the eastern seas and countries of the Mediterranean.

Also....the Battle of Derna in 1805 was the first time that US forces fought on foreign soil - and we were fighting a part of the Ottoman Empire. This was the “shores of Tripoli” that are referenced in the Marine’s Hymn.

@NZ Poke @windriverrange @CowboyJD although mainly to the last two guys. Here's my favorite book about the subject, the first handful of chapters about the Barbary Pirates are fantastic.

Dammit man! I’ve already got over 500 history (primarily), science and political books. The last thing I need to see is yet another book I HAVE to buy.....

Just kidding, thanks for the suggestion! When I get out of the conference tonight will have to go order it.

Branch out and try some Dave Barry, or better yet, vintage Lewis Grizzard (disclosure: read every book he wrote). And if you really want some good reading, get a copy of The Preachers (1973), about all the tele-evangelists at that time (Oral, Rev. Ike, etc.) I'm about half through it, send me money!:D

Lewis Grizzard is one of my favorites....close to having read all, my favorite is probably “If I Ever Get Back to Georgia, Am Going to Nail My Feet To the Ground.”

Send you money.....hummm your the retired accountant that’s as rich as 3 feet up a bulls ass . If you become a televangelist I’ll definitely throw some dough your way though.
