Is the War Still a Problem / Is it Still Solving Problems for the US?

I literally never hear anything about it anymore, not even on this board.

I'm not sure why we are still investing blood and treasure into it and what the returns from it are.

Thoughts?

To which war are you referring? We have bases around the world that were established during WWII.

How many of those bases could we close and bring our guys home to bases here and they spend their paychecks in the US economy instead of foreign economies?

How many are actual reactionary forces compared to how many are there just because they have always been there?

Did you know the war in Afghanistan is the longest tenured in our history?

I was speaking of the Afghan and Iraq theaters, not just bases around the world.

I know that we don't have a lot of troops left in Afghanistan but I believe the numbers in Iraq are in the 10's of thousands still.

So, my original question remains.

What are we getting for our investment.

It’s a personal, selective thing for Trump...he believes our drills with South Korea are “expensive” yet increases troops in Middle East and record defense spending.

Trump supporters don’t have the sense to see he’s a contradiction personified.

The premise is they use resources hiding from us instead of having complete freedom to plan attacks against our home land. Not sure ten phd’s could quantify that at this point.

@CSCOTTOSUPOKES why bring Trump into this one? The question posed by OP was a question about the war, not Trump. Obama has the longest tenure of extending the war so why didn’t you bring him up? He was supposed to end it. Remember that?

America /= individual companies lol

Do you not read brt and pilt posts? America is loaning the private sector money in the form of government spending to keep the economy churning. War is profitable. “America” by your definition is irrelevant.

Why?

Because Trump bitched and moaned about all the wars we were fighting before he ever decided to run for President, and then he does what? Starts new wars, increases troop levels, raises military spending to record levels, etc.

You get how this is on Trump now? Lol...is Obama’s presidency so engrained in your mind you can’t see the forest for them trees?

And what exactly was the candidate you voted for going to do? Obama continued Bush's legacy of dumb decisions and he we are, still there. Hillary's magic wand could only make things go poof on Huma Abedin.

Close!

Hmmmmmmm. You do realize military action in Yemen started before the raid that was cooked up by Obama administration officials and approved by Trump right after taking office, right? There were US troops in Yemen before 2015. In March of 2015, US evacuated special forces operating there. The first public acknowledgment came in 2016.
