Starocci won 3-1 in regulation, and I would predict the next time wouldn't be as close. Someone on our board said that the solution is to bull rush Ferrari's upper body when he is on his knees. I tend to agree. Physics support the aggressor.

And I agree. This is also why I am saying the next time Ferrari and Plott wrestle it won’t be as close. Ferrari scored 2 takedowns fairly easily. Plott was never close to scoring just like Ferrari wasn’t close to scoring on Starocci.

Hence, Plott is to Ferrari what Ferrari is to Starocci.

what does that even mean? I literally give my money to PSU wrestling, and only to PSU wrestling. I wish DT and OSU well but always to finish 2nd. My opinion on Ferrari is from a neutral position. It's bad for wrestling.

Ferrari’s wrestling IQ is top notch. If you bull rush him then he will shoot on you. He wrestles on one knee until he closes the distance then he comes up. He shoots from a tie up not from one knee. Plott had plenty of opportunities to shoot but did not. Is Ayala cheating too? Chris Perry used to do it as well. Bartlett just did it a whole match against Mendes. It’s not cheating just because you don’t like the outcome.

I had a great time at the dual last night. Iowa is very hospitable and their fans do a great job of supporting their team with crowd noise. Got to meet Cooper Dejean in the tunnel before the dual, so that was cool. Security let me linger between our bench and the locker room "as long as no one complains and I don't cause any trouble". Quite a few fans from Oklahoma State in attendance. Fun night and it was too bad that a Ferrari cost us the win. Go Pokes!!!

That was the biggest opposing team fan base that i can remember. Even Minny and Nebby haven’t shown up that well. Then again, could have just been that obnoxious hunter orange burning my retinas. 😉

The truth is that Plott and the coaches did a poor job of scouting Ferrari and game planning for his tendencies. That was a winnable bout. The good side of that is that I bet DT has been up since then thinking about it. A good learning experience for the team.

I doubt Plott will ever wrestle Ferrari in a collegiate style match again since Plott is a Senior and Ferrarri is redshirting.

Anthony Robles wrestled on one knee? Was he cheating. It is style and good wrestlers adjust for it.

I stand by what I said and if they wrestle again, Ferrari widens the gap even more after he felt Plott and how cleanly he finished his shots. Plott didn’t even touch Ferrari’s leg and the potentially dangerous call was off Ferrari’s own shot. Neither wrestler was ever going to score there.

Listen, I think Okie State looked great. Next to Iowa, I’m a fan. They needed a coaching change and they got the best package on the market. But, Okie State is ended the season 14-1 last year. This year’s team ended at 13-1. The only big difference from last year’s team and this year’s team are the portal guys.

8/10 wins last night were portal guys. Ferrari and Ayala were the only ones that were not.

I think the NCAA needs to find a way to curb this and get some control on it. Maybe there needs to be a non-compete clause in signings that prohibit you from going to named schools? I don’t know the answer but just spit balling.

Again, I never said Ferrari would not widen the gap. So look who you're responding to. It's debatable whether Plott would figure out his unique stance or not. You never see that in practice. It gives Ferrari a big advantage.

The call was potentially dangerous - not a stalemate. Very poor call - no knee turn at all. Debatable about whether Plott would have finished or not - it doesn't matter whether it was a counter of Ferraris shot or not.

I wouldn't call Spratley and Jamison traditional portal guys. They transferred to OSU as freshmen for their 1st competitive year. Not like a super star senior hired gun.

I don't love the portal either, but it's here to stay.

BTW - I think the main point of your posts are that you're fervently defending Ferrari. He was the #1 p4p in his class for a reason. Anyone arguing against him being a super stud is not being realistic. I think the just of the arguments simply center around his stance on whether it is either legal or should it be legal. Well, it is legal because the refs say it is. I don't think anyone can debate that. My opinion is, however, it should not be, for these reasons - he and a handful of others I have seen in the past do it for this simple reason - it is a defensive stalling tactic. When he is in that stance nobody is going to score, his opponent won't score and Ferrari won't score either because he's not capable of shooting from that stance. It's as boring as heck, there's no action. You might as well turn away from the match until he decides to get up and wrestle from his feet again - ITS NOT GOOD FOR THE SPORT TO ALLOW WRESTLERS TO STAY ON A KNEE - I have said this for years, it's not a personal attack on Ferrari.

Agreed! Very winnable match and dual. Should certainly scout wrestlers thoroughly who have a unique style.

Look, again I think Ferrari has a chance to be a 4 time finalist since he took a red shirt this year, so I understand his talent level.

My opinions is that Ferrari does not use his one knee stance for offensive purposes and others doing it don't either. The purpose is for one reason only - defense. It's simply bad for wrestling to allow it. I want wrestling to grow.

Lets not get into a discussion about John's stance - they are not comparable.

In regards to RBY, I'm not a fan of that either, but it's not nearly as bad, you can still shoot on him - he's not hiding his legs. He can still initiate his offense as well. You can't initiate offense from a knee.

Is it cheating like Fix or Brooks? Or, is it a different kind of cheating. Is it cheating like RBY with one behind his back? Is it cheating like Ayala against Rin or Bartlett vs Mendes?

It’s only cheating when Iowa does it. It’s only cheating because it was the difference in the dual. After the Nebraska dual, posters here thought it was ridiculous that Iowa was ahead of Okie State in the rankings. But, now it’s Iowa had to cheat to win.

If Arnold wrestles, Okie State wins almost every time because it’s a guaranteed 5-5 split and they win on criteria almost every time because of the separation at 25 and Hwt.

The real race between Iowa and Okie State is just beginning because Iowa is learning how to recruit and this is Taylor’s first recruiting class.

And, I said before the year started — Hamiti is your best wrestler followed by Hendrickson and then Spratley/Plott. It sure looked that way last night.

I also said Iowa’s best were Buchanan, Caliendo and then Ayala.

Iowa is my team but I try to be objective as possible.

In regards to RBY, I'm not a fan of that either, but it's not nearly as bad, you can still shoot on him - he's not hiding his legs. He can still initiate his offense as well. You can't initiate offense from a knee.

You certainly can shoot from a knee — ask John Smith and Coleman Scott. Oh, and McKenna is the godfather of one knee wrestling. Now, there is a guy in the room to practice against.

One arm and one leg is really no different - both used to limit the opponent’s offense. Again, Ferrari only goes to a knee to close the distance and then he stands up to lock up. All his shots are from his feet and not his knee.
