As to my idea we actually secure the border by putting walls where they will work, technology where it's better suited and increase or border patrol agent to provide 24/7 coverage. Shut down immigration for a period of ten years giving time to address the millions of illegal that are here, create a bipartisan immigration system and allow the country to absorb those that are allowed to stay. I would change the laws or if needed pass an amendment to the Constitution that ends birthright citizenship and says at least one parent must be an American citizen for a child to become an American citizen. I would also support a merit based system with a small percentage say 20% for chain migration but must have a sponsor that is financially responsible for them for 5 years. I would set a hard number of 1 million a year. No immigrant would have access to a single social safety net program for at least 5 years and each and everyone, excluding children would required to work and pay federal, state and local taxes during that 5 year period before they could have access to a any social program from then on. They would be required to learn English, American history and pass a real civics test before they could become eligible for citizenship. I could go on but this post is already to long.
By the way immigrating to this country is not a right, it's a privilege.
