HS Recruiting News

Wolbert beat #12 on that ‘27 list (Dean Anderson) yesterday in the semis of the PNL championship. Anderson is a hold back too so he’s the same age as Kellen
Some stats on Anderson.

2023 Folkstyle nationals champ 132 (16u)
2023 16u 132 5th (Fargo)
2024 17u nationals 4th 60kg
2025 Folkstyle nationals champion 138
2025 Nhsca soph nationals runner-up 138

College Results

2024 Doane Open champ (beat a few ranked NAIA guys) 133
2024 Reno 3rd 133

Best college win was over NAIA 4th place finisher Archuleta. He also beat Oregon States starter at Reno.

You can see Caldwell watching him Matside at RTOC.

You don’t hear much about him because he’s at Valiant College Prep so he does not have a season like most HS kids. Will be in Vegas U20 at 61 kg. Not sure where he projects for college weight wise.

That match was wild!!!! Anderson will most certainly be higher than #12 in the future. He's legit.
Watch his match vs McComas at PNL spring from last year. Wild finish, Anderson lost 3-2 I think but camera angle couldn’t verify challenge or refute it. Good match.

Was/still hoping the Raneys end up at Illinois. It seems Iowa has gone all in on recruiting and the dominoes are falling into place for a good team in the future. I tend to think landing Bo has been a big factor in getting more top recruits.

Someone above mentioned they fit in better at Iowa than us and thats 100% true. I also firmly believe that if we do/had signed them we possibly lose some of our best recruits for a multitude of reasons which would have been a bad look and we wouldnt be any better off imo.

Someone above mentioned being more sad of Jayden James and I felt that.....

Hire Jason Nolf
That could work. I think they would be crazy to not try something similar to what we did with the DT hire. Selfishly, I would rather see them throw a bag at Casey Cunningham. I've heard he turned us down, but that might not be true, things change, and Iowa can probably offer even more than we were willing to.

I do not think TNT will be coaching at Iowa during the bulk of this class's run. Tom looked very old this year.
There is no die in the Chihuahua twins. They will have to pry those guys out of their coaching positions, just to put them in their caskets

Casey is 47 I think. By the time he’s an empty nester, he’ll be over 50. I think the door is closing on that idea.

Good point. Everyone knows a wrestling coach fades fast after 50. Too many hungrier young bucks to try to keep up with. ;)
I know you were being tongue in cheek, but I think a generational disconnect happens once a coach becomes significantly older than the recruits father. It happens between 50-55 imho. It's not a steady thing, but teenagers are looking to wrestle for their heros and guys they emulated. It also just so happens that coaches in their 50s mat wrestle less and less, so the perception is that a program is in decline.

Tom Ryan was doing great several years ago, but lately has missed out on several elite guys, even ones in his backyard. It also didn't help that he was severely injured and doesn't do much coaching on the mat now. Perception. I think the same thing is hurting ISU. A certain staleness in the program develops.

TR lands a lot of high level prospects but in the last few years only Mendez has developed.

I said the same thing about the coaching staff at OK State for the past few years. Things went very stale. John Smith is definitely a legend, but not the legend that the wrestlers today watched. Taking nothing away from Smith, dude was one of the best wrestlers ever and was a great coach!

Munaretto committed to Ohio State.

Munaretto committed to Ohio State.

Was hoping he’d go to Illinois. Munaretto, the Raneys, and Stewart would be an amazing class for them.
