HS Recruiting News

100% accurate and I completely agree with you. The truth sometimes offends people and then you get called names or people think you are being mean.
You missed the point of the exchange.

That's not surprising though. You were also the only poster on this board who didn't realize the Gable Steveson to Stillwater comments were sarcasm.

I think the PSU team does an excellent job of scouting opponents weaknesses too. Their guys seem to optimize their strategy match by match.
When a kid commits to PSU they know they know the expectations that carries with the fans and program. You have to perform at a high level everyday to have to any chance of starting. Nobody wants to be the weak link on the team and everyone is 100% bought in on the process. When everyone around you is great and succeeding you want to be apart of that. Winning is contagious. With the talent they get and that mindset its a healthy environment of personal responsibility and work ethic.

This years success is so important for the future of the program because if we can have a good showing at nationals and take a big leap forward, everyone will see the results of the work put in and then it could be a domino effect for younger guys development and recruiting where you have 30+ guys totally bought in.

Thank you i’m not against any kid or athlete if we want to win we only recruit the best. That is what we have done the last three years prior to that we were chasing kids that weren’t the best.

But they also didn’t start with that. They were winning NCs before that culture was completely built. You can’t discount just how insanely good CS is.

Where that a-hole from Vinita at? Vhsalum
When he said we were about to lose him I told him he was going nowhere and he said you’re sure I said 100%. He was just having a good time.

We had a great recruiting year for 2023 Hughes 33-41, Thompson 74-84, Carroll HWT, Heeg 74-84 and Robb 84-97. We have a good 2024 recruiting class with Merrill 97 , Sakamoto 133, and McComas 25-33. Now we have an excellent start to our 2025 recruiting class with must get Lockett 57-65, also Purler and Hickman. I will say this Guerrero could have won that match with Sommer very easily and he is a year younger, son of a coach and my impression he was not even in the same league as Sommer last year. I do think we need 1 more star recruit for the 25 class. Ladarion Lockett is a great get. Now we need to see the 23 class really improve. I like the change I saw in Thompson, Hughes pushed Alveraz in the Hays final but Carroll hopefully gets healthy and shows more than he has shown this year. These last 3 years gives us 6 potential National Champs. Prior years recruiting hopefully gives us a top flight 49 with Williams, Young or Jamison. I sure would like to see Spratley improve and score more later in a match. Next 2 years we have Plott at 84, I guess Veasy could be the replacement down the road or if Robb, Heeg develop or Thompson grows. Looks promising but I remember 2020 and 2021 recruiting classes so time will tell but it looks promising.

I think the announcer said during the NWHOF duals that Guerrero didn't wrestle as a freshman, so last year was his first HS season. In February Ray Blake said that Guerrero has the ability to be one of the best wrestlers in the country. Might just be coach talk, but he has looked good so far this year.

Right now I see Lockett wrestling 157 in college. He did not look to be a true 165 at Iron Man.
Zeb Miller interviewed Lockett after Ironman. Said his walk-around weight is 168 and he originally planned to go 157. His dad wanted him to wrestle the stacked 165 bracket.

Hate them or love them you got to respect that they just don’t ever come back to the pack and keep moving forwards ! They are so far ahead of everyone else
I’ll lean towards Hate lol. It feels like a rigged game at this point. I did go through and look at the results of every NCAA since ‘09 last night and it’s crazy how close we were at times

Going to take a major shake up to beat them the next 2-3 years
I have indicated our 1st opening to beating them would be not this or next year but the year after. The reason being that they lose Starocci, Brooks, Kerkvliet and I think Bartlett. Until then they are invincible. However as AtownPoke indicates their 2024 class is unbelievable, in 2025 they have Duke 2nd, and Perry rated 33rd, and 2023 they got Barr rated 7th, Kasak rated 10th and Davis rated 42nd. So they may just reload but the 1st 2 that they lose are in the picture of being all time greats (Starocci and Brooks).

One big key to closing the gap seems to be John’s newfound willingness to take a guy like Olejnik. Hopefully they can continue to hit on both these top HS guys (Carroll, Thompson, Hughes, Merrill, Sakamoto, Lockett) and supplement with guys like Olejnik.
