Were the perps from the weekend?

I haven't been as plugged in as usual this weekend. (Nice)

@Syskatine can you help a brother out and bring me up to speed. For Fair and Balanced let's also bring in "Mr. Christian Man" @AC2017

Unbiased 3rd party arbiter and La-Z-Boy connoisseur @HighStickHarrry

Checking in with analysis from under a pile of women @MegaPoke

From a poker table with a look that smugly suggests A-K suited @Ostatedchi

Shooter 'But Don't Call Me McGavin' @N. Pappagiorgio

Transmitting in binary from his liquid Nitrogen cooled warehouse, the "consciousness" of @07pilt

And lastly, the man with a 45 year old song for any occasion @JimmyBob

First hot take, @Syskatine , mental illness is.... go

I just wish we were talking about possible solutions to the issue rather than pointing fingers and trying to assign blame.
The second order of this is "I wish all people would come to the table prepared to evaluate evidence for insight and process for optimization opportunity."

Anybody assigning blame on such a complex issue has an agenda.

While I completely agree, its ironic that its only when the leftist is involved that you decide to speak up regarding blame assignment. Strange I don't see this same response in the threads where the right-winger was the culprit.

I'd offer you "guest DJ for a day", but I don't think you're old enough to do it justice.:D
Both my dad and step dad owned night clubs and would DJ on some nights, probably says more about my mom than my music tastes.

Can we set the stage for the discussion?

Some of my quick thoughts while I sip my morning coffee
  • We have a ban on Automatic Weapons
  • We have a mental health issue in this country
  • We have a rush to judgement social media/traditional media society
  • Social Media is a cesspool
  • We have the most guns per capita in the world
  • Reasons for committing terrorism is not monolithic
  • White people do commit acts of terrorism
  • White people who commit acts of terrorism do things for different reasons (left, right, Registered Dems and Reps)

How about dropping the partisanship and showing some humanity.

Lets see if this can bring you guys back down to earth:

"Jordan and Andre Anchondo brought their infant son to Walmart on Saturday as they shopped for school supplies. But only the little boy would survive the visit, their relatives told CNN.

The Anchondos were killed after a gunman opened fire in an El Paso shopping center on Saturday, Elizabeth Terry and Jesse Jamrowski said.
The couple -- who had just celebrated their one-year wedding anniversary -- went to the store after dropping off their 5-year-old daughter at cheer practice, Terry said.

Jordan Anchondo died in the El Paso Walmart shooting protecting her two-monthold son, Paul.
As the gunfire erupted, Jordan shielded her 2-month-son old, Terry said. Andre, meanwhile, jumped in front of his wife, Jamrowski said.
"The baby still had her blood on him. You watch these things and see these things and you never think this is going to happen to your family," Terry said"

Let the conversation play out. If you'll pay attention, it was intended for discussion outside of partisanship. And some posters that are good at serving a guiderails are present.

You don't have to be here if you feel compelled to judge people on what you feel is a lack of humanity.

Brad thinks Nazis are leftists...shows you what kind of intellectual we’re workin with here haha
Both view human beings as elements of collectives, and use the power of the state to destroy individualism and any opposition. Yep. Pretty much the same. Doesn't mean they have to like each other, and it doesn't mean that one is better than the other. Sort of like opposing mob families.

We have over 12,000 federal gun laws.
What the hell, a few dozen more can't hurt.

Yep, it kind of depends on what those pesky laws actually say, huh? 12,000 federal gun laws. What's your source for this? I love getting into your talking points

Prior to 50s and 60s, there were many more resources for the mentally ill (that number estimated to be around 8 million according to this article).

The closing of many of those hospitals then.
+
The influence of Social media now.

Might equate to a chunk of what we are seeing.

This is one thing that does blow my mind. This is going to sound like a strange question but...does one or multiple laws in place hamstring our law enforcement to help prevent these shootings? I guess I'm saying is one or more of these laws counter productive to protecting our citizens.

Not falling for it wise ass.
My post stands on its factual merits.

Nice try.

Yeah, that's what I thought. You had no idea, you still don't, and you'll pass about anything along if it feels good. Shame on me for asking for a source.

Closing of hospitals, influence of social media with happiness tied directly to how many likes you receive on a post, and pharm companies shipping out more anti-depressants than ever.

You really need to educate yourself on the subject. Nazis were/are leftists.

Personally, I think we need to pass another law.

We need to make killing another person illegal.

They really weren’t tho...see Hitler’s views on liberals ***shrugs shoulders***

Keep driving that BS narrative tho lol

First off telling that the sysmeister is who liked this post......

This story could be told 100's of times every week, but since it involves a mass shooting with a long rifle it trumps all other news. Did you read about the two anti-violence activists (Chicago) both women gunned down on a corner that their organization "had taken back" from drug dealers and pimps? They left behind 5 young children total, where is the political and media outrage? Read a stat last week that of the murders in Baltimore this year the overwhelming percentage were black victims (something like 94% of the total) where is the outrage there? See as long as the political parasitic whores and political activists masquerading as journalists have an axe to grind (Trump, too many white nationalist, xenophobia, open borders and gun control etc etc) nothing will get done and as tragic as the above is it is repeated all the time.

Obviously there is going to have to be more robust monitoring of websites that harbor these types of individuals and the threshold for what is acceptable in an offsite public forum needs to be mitigated. Gun control is not going to solve anything, if it did places like DC, Chicago, Baltimore and NY would be absolute paradises. Don't tell me which kind of weapon I can or can't own either. The mental health issues must absolutely be addressed as well as the role social media now plays in so many lives.

As these stories unfold and I suspect the signs were there all along for the asshat in TX (people already knew the fool in OH was nuts) you will most likely see numerous misses. The misses have to stop, end of statement the route to stop them is the problem. The school shooting in Florida could have and should have been stopped.....more misses.

The finger pointing and blaming before all the facts are out is just weak minded theatre and the media that supports that is just as bad. Recriminations will come soon enough, but spare me the story of orphans unless you are going to be just as upended by orphans who were left that way because their parent(s) were killed on some crime infested street corner, by a drunk driver or a habitual criminal. Every single child who loses a parent is a tragedy, just that some fit the political narrative so they get the coverage.

https://www.economist.com/united-states/2019/08/03/baltimore-needs-help-to-fix-its-crime-problems this is from the economist and it pretty much illustrates how and why inner cities turn into hell holes. Where is the outrage?

I almost went down the "limit more types of guns" path until the wack-a-dos that want socialism started rising up. A well armed citizenship prevents government overstep. Mental health and social media are the area that needs attention. I'm not even sure if Oklahoma has mental hospitals anymore. I know Vinita use to have one but I think it's closed. Social media is totally out of control hiding behind free speech.
