GOT 5

If this was the big one then all I got to say is fart. This was a better episode but still lame. So Dani goes mad king because she sees the red keep? They have made her into this weak minded easy goated person. Also Cersei being dumb and having no back plan seemed off. Why could Dani now take out the Iron fleet with one dragon but couldn’t take out a few ships before. I am just going to enjoy it and not get to much worked up but they tend to make Dani and her dragons weak and dumb then they are badass and killing everyone seems very up and down and no explainable.

That was better than I thought it would be. Like you said, @JonnyVito, why was she able to out maneuver the giant arrows now and not before. I also wish they would have let the mad queen thing simmer more over time. That’s on the producers deciding to do this in 6 episodes. She went from not wanting a war inside the gates to burning down the entire city, even wayyy after the army was gone. I agree that was always the end game, just needed more time to get there. I’m guessing Arya is going to kill Dany or why have her in there to see the carnage. Clegane bowl was everything I wanted. I don’t believe Jon would ever raid a city like that but maybe I don’t know. Overall I like it, need to sleep on it to fully decide.

More shitty writing.

SPOILERS:

Pretty much what I expected, other than Jaime actually going back to C for love rather than to kill her.

They have been setting Dani up to go mad king all season.

Clegane Bowl went as expected.

I don’t see the point of the Arya plot. She has gone from Faceless Man Assassin to scared little girl who is lucky to be alive.

I didn’t hate the episode. Much better than last week. The discrepancy between how powerful/vulnerable a dragon can be, is difficult to stomach, though.

You guys do realize that she burned everyone and KL because Jon wouldn’t give her the D right. These writers are pigs.

Also the wild fire was weak sauce if the Mad King had that every where it would have been a bigger deal.

Lol sad but true

I think Arya's resolution was this episode with the Hound. I think her heroics are over.

Foreshadowing has all been about Tyrion is on his last Dani straw, Jon intervenes and doesn't get roasted, and Sansa does the deed. Way too much Sansa v Dani conflict for her not to play a role somehow.

I don’t know been thinking and I wonder if Jon can break his vow. He bent the knee and I can see him riding that vow to his death. He won’t be happy with what happened but I don’t think he will kill Dani because he bent the knee. I could see him sulking back to the north and maybe even returning to castle black or something.

Sansa is at least a week away from KL. No way everyone just chills out for a few days until she arrives. Are you daft?

Edit... I could see Tyrion taking her down though.

So Dany has to be out. I only see Jon, Tyrion, Sansa or no one as “King of the 7 Kingdoms.”

As I predicted some time ago there is going to be no one on the iron throne. This will end will the seven kingdoms all independent. Make of that what you want.

My take: This is GRRM driving home his ultimate theme the quest for power destroys and the little people pay the price. I also think it will come off better in the books because you can have a lot more subtlety and get into peoples motivations etc. On TV it just comes across like a sledge hammer.

Overall I thought it was just way too over the top:

Apparently the dragon is the ultimate super weapon. It can take out whole fleets and cities in one pass yet still has enough touch to shoot right over your head and barbeque Varys without anyone else even getting a sunburn.

As noted Dani has just gone from breaker of chains to mad king in about a week. A little more buildup would have helped

I get where they were trying to go with the whole Jamie and Cersei came into the world together and now they go out together but it still seemed forced.

Euron Greyjoy just seem like a cartoon character and he came crawling out of the ocean just as Jamie was walking by?

The whole Clegane bowl was a disappointment. I get the mountain had been transformed into a monster but you stab him in the heart and threw the head and it still doesn't kill him? Come on.

I really wanted Arya to kill Cersei. I thought she had a nice final moment with the hound. What was the deal with the white horse?

Next week:

I'm on the Arya kills Dani bandwagon. Seems to be where her story arc is leading.

Tyrion could actually do it. He is pissed. I don't like how dumb his character has become.

Jon's the third candidate. The destruction of Kings Landing finally opened his eyes.

I feel like they are going to leave a lot of loose ends.

Overall I give this a C-. Could have been so much better.

The dragon with the rider can dodge the arrows just like last week. The one with no human is an "easy target". My question is if it was so easy why didn't she destroy the fleet last week? That part just makes no sense.

Jon didn't intend to raid the city like that. He believed in Dani and thought she would only use as much force as necessary. He lost control of the situation.

They had plenty of time to scout out the limitations of the scorpions. Tyrion basically told Jamie that they had the scorpions figured out. They couldn't aim on the level, only upwards. She spent a good chunk of the attack on the ships staying low to the water. Also the scorpions on the wall were aimed outward, they assumed they could take her down before reaching the city. But she came from behind them and then attacked them perpendicular to their aiming.

Isn't that a contradiction to the attack on the ships last week? Seemed like those shots were level.

The episode had holes. Big deal. What they were able to capture from the viewpoint of a common citizen of KL was nothing short of incredible.

Nothing pleases you people anymore.
People don’t like change. This was a slow meandering story line that turned into a race car. It’s not about the cinematography.

Does it feel like they are settling up Sansa to be the new Cersei?

Or, as I posted last week...

He confronts Dani. She goes all Dracaris on his ass. Arya comes out of nowhere to take her out and save Jon.
They've already pulled that with the NK. They won't do it again. It'll have to be Jon.

My guess, Jon kills her for sacking King's Landing. Then he either voluntarily gets killed by Grey Worm, kills himself, or somehow takes the Black again so as to not be a candidate for King (even though there is no need and nothing left of the Knight's Watch.)

What does that leave? Ugggg, I can't believe it but no body on the throne. A small council of people will rule. Would Brann be in charge?

And if Danny does die, what happens to Gendry's lordship? Is he no longer lord of High Garden?

Gendry is lord of Storms End, not High Garden.

I always kind of thought the country would go back to being 7 kingdoms again. Nobody sitting on the Iron Throne. It’s setting up a little bit for that.

Sorry. Storm's End. Will he keep that title if Danny is dead and wasn't really queen when she pronounced it?

Stunning episode of TV. The Varys execution and Clegane Bowl were perfect.

I don't really buy how quickly Dany spiraled into crazy person though. Jon has to kill Dany at this point. I mean he really hasn't done anything this season. That has to be his "moment". I'm guessing Jon being a Targ is probably a bad thing now.

Cersi and Jaime's end was pretty unsatisfying.

My guess ... that is something the books would worry about but the show won't. I hope I'm wrong because that is the stuff I love but I wouldn't be shocked if Storm's End is never mentioned again.

So, how pissed would you be if you turned on Sportcenter to catch some scores before firing up the DVR and had GOT spoiled?

I wonder if the random shots of the green dragonfire exploding in town foreshadow something? They seldom add random things like that without using them later (and not much later to go).

Still not 1000% convinced Cersei/Jamie are dead.

How about the white horse for Arya? Revelations foreshadowing? 'And I looked, and behold a pale horse: and his name that sat on him was Death, and Hell followed with him.' She looked like she had a new name on her list.

Those were the store of Wild Fire left by the Mad King throughout the city. Everything came full circle. Jamie and Cersei are 100% dead.

I get what they are supposed to be... but that was completely un-needed for the shots. I think its going to mean something.

Why were they not needed? There was tons of Wild Fire under the city. The city is burning. It only makes sense the Wild Fire would blow up as well. It would be lazy writing to not have them included in the blowing up of the city. Now, whether it means anything going forward, we will see, but I think it was just the old Wild Fire that neither Tyrion nor Cersei had picked up.

I agree. But how odd of an ending for Cersei. Basically the shows supervillian. And it’s like her death supposedly building collapse around her with no one directly involved and no one even knows she’s dead. What do they find her in the rubble? It didn’t even show her body. I’ve talked myself into it. She’s alive

I laughed, I cried. Great episode.

Monday morning QB-ing of GOT is not for me.

The Hound's reaction to stabbing his brother to death and him not dying was freaking awesome. Loved that scene, and their plunge to the death. Just perfect.

Also loved Euron's dying remark "I'm the man that killed Jamie Lannister!" Also perfect.

And Cersei is dead. They died together. Hard to miss the symbolism of the collapsing Red Keep crushing her under its weight.

And her and Jamie coming into this world together, being together all their lives, and then dying together in the collapse of everything they've worked for.

So I think I've come to grips with Danny's sacking of KL. She realized that she was never going to reign over the seven kingdoms because she realized that they didn't love her like her supporters across the narrow sea. As such, she said F it and decided to just burn it all down. One of those mad king thoughts of 'if I can't have it, nobody can.' Okay, I can see that. She already lost Jon and she now doesn't want to rule with out him. So... let's go out in a blaze of glory.
