http://www.flowrestling.org/article/46369-2-jarod-verkleeren-3-kaden-gfeller-to-meet-at-who-s-1That event is terrific! Who they wrestling?
I watched Fix in Dallas this past year tech fall Gomez 10-0. Gomez is good and Iowa State got a good recruit.Great. Thank you
OSUMatFan. We watched the final match in Dallas together. Fix had five takedowns to win 10-0. None were exclusively free style moves. Gomez dec. Pic on freestyle moves mostly and he is very good free style. Pic is the overall better wrestler in my estimation.Yes Gomez beat the rest of the field to face Fix. Fix dominated and it was not close in freestyle, but Gomez was really slick in freestyle as he defeated Piccinini earlier in the day, but Pic came back to take third pretty much whipping everyone else. Gomez was very slick in freestyle, but not sure where he and Fix are in collegiate style.

Fix wins j8-3 over Gomez. Gfeller loses 3-10 but it was 3-4 Verkleeren when in the 3rd Kaden tried a throw and got caught on his back. Much closer match this time with Fix/Gomez and it was 3-2 Fix in the 3rd when Fix took him to his back with the inside trip to score 5. Other matches included Decatur upsetting Teasdale 8-7 at 120. Nick Lee over Sammy Sasso 8-3, Ramon Bravo-Young 3-3 over Nick Raimo despite throwing up in the 2nd period. Michael Beard at 182 and ranked #2 defeated Jelani Embree 12-6 and looked very solid and he is uncommitted. In the next match Brady Berge won in ot over Shane Griffith and Berge from Mn. is uncommitted at 160.http://www.flowrestling.org/article/46810-insane-play-wrestling-between-daton-fix-and-kaden-gfeller 4pm today for the Who's #1 duals.

I agree that it was a closer match than the score indicated. Kaden had not been able to score on his feet and probably thought this was his best chance. Gfeller is still growing into his weight and has gotten much taller in the last couple of years. He will improve greatly after getting more strength to go with his size.I liked the fact that Gfellar was still wrestling for the win. He gave up a 4 point move on an attempt at a lateral drop with seconds to go. He had nothing to lose and went for it. I like the attitude.
I wasn't watching that close, but did not see where he gassed, just went for a wild shot to win it and came up short.
I thought Verkleeren had a lot to do with that. He is very strong. Again I loved the way Gfeller did not quit and went for a risky move at the end. I like that mentality and it will serve him well in college.[/QUOTE
Verkleeren looked to be the oldest one on or around the mat including coaches and referees. I look young at 92 but he is going to be bald (Badge of Honor) in college. Fix/Gomez, Verkleeren/Gfeller or Lewallen look to be great matchups in future OK State/Iowa State duals.
I was shocked when they announced Gfeller would wrestle Verkleeren. Verkleeren was obviously bigger and stronger. He took the match to Gfeller and I agree with whoever said that the score was close but the match was dominated by Verkleeren. I am also a fan of Gfeller and feel he will have a great career in college and should not be judged on this match. He is obviously in a growing spurt and when he gains the strength he needs by redshirting and weight training he will be much better. You got to remember as well that it was the first time for Gfelar to wrestle in 3 months. I believe he only had to make 150 so he was very undersized. Also did you think that was a reversal on the edge of the mat? and the takedown in the third, was it an escape then takedown? I might be biased because I am a huge fan of Gfellar, my son wrestles at OWA. But regardless of the bias opinion I still feel the messed up that call which swayed the match big time.
I'm in your camp derek, Gfeller will have a better college career than Verkleeren! It was only 5 months ago that Verkleeren lost to Wyatt Sheets in a 160lb bout in the last minute of the match and I think this is the highest weight Gfeller has wrestled. But as for control of this match Gfeller looked great. Had this been a college match in the second period Gfeller wouldn't have had to work at all for an escape, standing straight up would have been suffice. Verkleeren just held on, Gfeller just burned through his tank trying to escape. This being more of an exhibition event I really appreciated him cutting him loose and going for the win in the third. Gfeller will probably grow some more and will be great in college.
