Four Gopher wrestlers suspended after drug investigation

Four University of Minnesota wrestlers have been suspended until Jan. 1, 2017 for their alleged involvement in this summer's drug investigation, according to multiple media reports Wednesday.

The wrestlers -- Tommy Thorn, Ethan Lizak, Larry Early and Brandon Krone -- have been suspended "for violation of team rules" according to a spokesman for the school's athletic department. Early is a redshirt freshman; the others are registered redshirt sophomores.

Thorn, a returning NCAA qualifier, earned a No. 7 ranking at 141 pounds in InterMat's NCAA Division I preseason rankings. Lizak, an NCAA qualifier in 2015 who redshirted last season, comes into this season ranked No. 11 at 125 pounds.

Hope they get it all back on track. Minnesota has a rich history and I hope to see them back near the top soon.

So our dual with Minnesota is without four of the starters. That is a disappointment!

Actually only two starters:Lizak and Thorn. Short at 157 and Kingsley at 165 are both starters over Early and Krone. Too bad that Heil/Thorn won't happen, so just two wins for Gophs (197 & hvy).

You really think short starts over early ? I have doubts on that

I thought the same on Early. Not familiar with Krone, but he wrestled quite a bit last year.

Yeah he's on the HR and BWI boards as well. He never brings up his kid unless asked about him though
