Team USA takes on Team Japan at Beat the Streets on Wednesday, May 17th. As part of the event, Daton Fix and Jordan Oliver will also compete.

Daton will face PA state champ Austin DeSanto in a modified "first to 5 takedowns" match. DeSanto recently defeated Spencer Lee at the PA state championships and then beat 4x CA state champ Justin Mejia at the PWC (formerly named the Dapper Dan).

JO will face previous world champ Frank Chamizo of Italy. Chamizo defeated Frank Molinaro for bronze at last year's Olympics.

Daton was on Takedown Radio's podcast yesterday. I fast forwarded to the end and they spoke with him for about 5-10 minutes. He said he wrestled up at 132 this season and was only walking around about 135, so making 55 kg for freestyle is not a problem. He also said the BTS organizers haven't decided yet whether his match this week will be takedowns only or regular freestyle.

The team USA V. Japan starts at 6pm on Flo wrestling starting with the Fix v. DeSanto match.

You would think with all the high level wrestlers in the NY area they could of found someone sort of nationally relevant around his weight that would do it.

Freshman or Soph in college from the area or a highly ranked JR or SR in HS that is around the weight would work.

Well you were right, they found someone. Fix will face Julian Chlebove, PA state champ at 120 this year. Good for Chlebove taking the match on short notice.

The kid Daton was supposed to wrestle was injured. So was the replacement guy who they got after the original guy backed out. According to oberebo, the guy Daton wrestled just basically sent out a tweet saying he'd take on Daton. Pretty cool for him to step up to the challenge.

In an interview, Daton was asked what he was going to do after BTS, and he mentioned head to Stillwater to train. Didn't realize that after graduation, he could immediately move on to the training room at OSU. He should only get better.

Fix won and JO lost. Fix teched the Illinois 113 state champ. JO had an exciting match. He is wrestling very well right now. I was impressed by how often he got to Chamizo's legs.

The JO match was great and exceeded the high expectations going in.

They actually incorrectly gave Chamizo a 2 for exposure when there was none and it should have just been a 1 for a push out. It would have then ended 6-6 with JO winning on criteria.

Either way it was a great match between two high level guys.

Micco, the guy I told you who tweeted he would wrestle Daton was Chlebove.. However even though they ran his name up to match time it ended up being Joey Melindez from Illinois He was no match for Daton and was undersized. Glad Daton got to wrestle even if it was his 4th or 5th replacement but beating a 113 pound state champion from Illinois was just a walk in the park for Daton and hardly worth the effort. Can not fault Daton but apparently nagging injuries suddenly get worse when faced with having to wrestle him. BTW O agree that the Oliver match with the former world champion was worth the price of admission.

Ok....so the kid that dropped down a weight to face Spencer Lee now used an injury excuse to dodge Fix? Is that what you're saying here?

Ummm...no. Not sure how things work in Oklahoma but in Pennsylvania you have to decide what weight you're wrestling at the state tournament weeks before it is held. There are districts then regionals you have to go through. At no time did anyone know Spencer was injured including DeSanto.

Look, Fix is a great wrestler. Just don't think it's cool taking a cheap shot at a kid who was visibly limping at BTS. Yeah, I guess next you guys will saying he was faking it but it sure doesn't seem like the m.o. for a kid who gave up a way easier path to a state championship to get some redemption against Lee.

Did not mean to ruffle feathers here. He may be legitimately injured but he was just the first of four who for one reason or another did not wrestle. I am sure he is a great wrestler. Just disappointed that Fix was not provided better competition. No cheap shot intended.

I understood what you meant Obe. It was odd how the organizers had to scramble to find multiple opponents at the last moment. Willie Saylor even remarked a few times about how strange it was. A little tongue in cheek comment by you, no big deal. Posters make truly insulting posts on the other boards all the time. I don't think I've ever seen a mean spirited post by you.

Anyway, regarding your point about Daton facing tougher competition, I'm really interested to see him against the senior level guys. Willie asked him (link in my previous post) if he thought about that and he replied something along the lines of "I haven't even won a junior world title yet so I want to achieve that first, but I feel I can wrestle with anybody".

What a humble, confident, focused kid. And a homegrown Cowboy!

Wrassler, thanks for the post.. I do not like to belittle the other competitors. ALL who wrestle have my respect. I was not in any way degrading the young wrestler Fix did tech fall. He was just undersized and younger. I still wish they could have found a more appropriate opponent but after whatever happened with Chlebove they had to scramble. As to Daton, I have gotten to know him and his family over the last 2-3 years and you could not find a better representative for OK State.
I learned my lesson 7-8 years ago about trading insults with other fans including parents and it is not worth it in terms of MY peace of mind. Arguing who is better with fans on either side is fruitless and sadly in the case of DeSanto we will not know unless they wrestle in college or an open tournament.

I stand corrected and apologize. Was trying to be funny, but it came out different. Definitely don't want to disparage a kid. I shall edit my post.

Let me apologize. I shouldn't assume the worst in people and that's what I did. So please...I hope you accept my apology.
