As my intellectual superior I wonder if you would give me your totally independent thought on a question I have: as Donald Trump & his MAGA Associates continue to bully and browbeat what is perhaps our closest and most sycophantic ally, Canada, is there any possibility the Canuks will feel compelled to ease any tensions with Russia or China, and begin to look upon either one of them (or both) as potential defenders against the bullying? How about BRICS? Might Canada apply to join BRICS?

Canada is on my $hit list just now, my opinion is this:
I admire Canada for their back bacon, beer, small mouth fishing & the ~20 or so friends I have from Vancouver to Montreal. Canada is most famous for being the largest neighbor of the US and as such has very little need for a defense budget or other financial obligations that are associated with not being such a neighbor which I’m sure you will agree could be quite large as a “sycophantic ally” to the US. Canada can assert zero power with China or Russia except for cowing down to them to seek favors from them as a lever against the US.
Their socialist system is egregious from their tax structure through their medical infrastructure. My friends in Montreal have to take their kids to Detroit to see a physician on anything less than a 60-day notice. And they have to pay in cash.
Trudeau’s best trait is that he is a communist. He & his cronies will be swept up in the global child trafficking (and worse) industries. Witness that as soon as the USAID scandal began being exposed the Canadian version of it had all its electronic records purged.
Canada has been suckling at the teat of America for far too long. They are neck deep in DEI & divisive culture and the people have been effectively disarmed literally & figuratively. They have been politically and practically flogged into submission and now, for the most part, accept & defend it.
My cousin teaches at a high school where her husband is the principal in Vancouver. He is a Canuck, she grew up in Purcell. Their horror stories are epic.
There’s more, but this is enough from my personal experience. If you don’t agree, it is certainly within your purview.
If you do understand what a BRIC’s membership beyond a basic concept you will answer your own question about that. What benefit would it provide them?

Well, that was a lot of words, almost none of which answered the question. But maybe my intellect is so inferior your words flew right over my head.
It seems to me that in less than one month our presidential leader has picked fights with Canada, Mexico, China, Denmark, Panama, NATO and Ukraine, China being our only perceived enemy, the rest being allies to various degrees. He (and his MAGA faithful) seems to think his swagger will be enough to outlast the world’s patience. For our sake I hope he’s right. But if he’s wrong BRICS might start looking like a desirable alternative to incessant browbeating by one who was thought to be an ally, an equal. But I’m of low intellect, so I’m probably worrying without good reason.
I think if Dan did a genealogy test his his DNA would trace back to mice. No offense to the mice out there.

Oh, forgive me, you mean your question about BRICS? I don’t know any particulars of how joining would benefit Canada. But I do know BRICS scares the hell out of DJT enough for him to threaten our allies if they apply to join. Threats work until they don’t work. One ally (perhaps Canada) defies the threat and eventually they all rise up against the bully. So, you being of superior intellect I thought your independent thought might have known how to answer my question. Instead you gave reasons you don’t like the country. I don’t know, dinkem, maybe you don’t think as deeply as you led me to believe.

I was stationed at Goose Bay, Labrador for 15 months. The Canadians have virtually NO defense budget. The US tax payer provides for Canadian defense. Russian aircraft get close to Canada and US fighter jets scramble.
Canada supplys the US with soft lumber and heavy crude. The Canadians have no refineries capable of dealing with Alberta heavy crude. Alberta heavy needs Keystone. Texas has a bigger economy than Canada..
The Canadians do know how to measure highways and air temps. Water freezes at 0C in Toronto, not Detroit's numerically dysfunctional and idiotic 32F.
One other thing the citizens of the Great White North have taken to is purchasing virtually all the lumber companies & saw mills in Northwest part of the US and virtually shut them down forcing home builders such as my son and brother to pay exorbitant prices for lumber for their business. Tariffs will repair this mess nicely among other things.
