I've never understood these types of challenges.
A friend of mine convinced me to scale Mt. Fuji twenty years ago. At 12,385-feet, it didn't seem that overwhelming. Tons of people do it every year.
Miserable experience. Rained most of the way up and you couldn't see more than twenty yards ahead of you. It just kept going and going and going. Even worse, there were little, 70-year olds behind you climbing up like they were going downhill. How is that possible?
Was great getting to the peak. Quite a view. And there was a signature from Jimmy Carter who climbed it at 69-years old. His zest for life is pretty amazing. But there's an old expression in Japan....'Everyone should climb Fuji once....only a fool does it twice'.
