DeVos confirmed... 51-50

There are more education bureaucrats in this country than teachers.

Total decentralization is the solution. Then each district will have to be responsible for their results. Add school choice and you'll see these schools get right real quick.

Speaking of state legislature, is anyone supporting that bill to make it harder to get a divorce?

Schools falling apart, teachers fleeing the state and we have some chump that wants to interject his values on other people.

I've got an idea, FIX REAL PROBLEMS FOR A CHANGE!

You do realize half of the states already offer some form of education choice? What if any impact has that had? What is your source of data on teacher to administrators/bureaucrat ratio - that would be great to take a look at.

100% graduation rate. 0% dropout rate. I'll take that.
Second.

For you familiar with education these days, do you think there is too much focus on moving kids into college vs trades/trade schools? College is a great opportunity, but we know that not all will be successful. Is anything being done to encourage kids to pursue vocational school after graduation?

Back in my day, my high school had a very robust program for matching students with areas in the votech. I have no idea if this is still being done.

Because about once a week, you throw those idiots out there like they enjoy some kind of support on this board. I've never seen it if they do.

I think our state legislature is a special breed of stupid and really don't provide you an apples to apples comparison on the national level for education or anything else.

I'm sorry, could you publish an approved list of political topics? So you agree, but you don't want me to bring it up.

So the rest of the country's conservatives are just... smarter than these oklahoma conservative rubes? Why are our republicans so much worse? They say the same things as the national republicans. Our DC contingent are all Oklahomans. I don't get why we can't point to Oklahoma as an example of conservative governance.

I guess a college that turns out successful graduates isn't a good enough source. Larry Arnn is an honest educator who cares about his students and doesn't accept a dime of government money.

What a novel idea of education.
Mr. Arnn isn't on the record with his claim, nor is there any source I can find that he might have been quoting. If you have either would love to read up on the claim.

Look at you and squeak... Whatever fantasy you're sharing, can you keep it to yourselves? Thanks!
Don't worry. It's a diverse fantasy. You're a black Muslim woman. Probably not realistic for a Portland resident, but that's why this is a fantasy.

Ha! Who sets policy and budgets for education in your part of the world? I know who sets them in mine. I am willing to pay $18k in additional property taxes each year to support local schools - especially given the results.

If your local schools suck, a portion of the blame can go to Washington, but more should go to your state and local leaders as well as the community that won't provide adequate funding.
Be honest, Dave, you pay $18,000 a year in additional property taxes so you don't have to live next to the riffraff.

States should allocate money evenly. Poor neighborhoods have poor schools. Poor schools have poor students. Poor students become poor citizens. Poor citizens live in poor neighborhoods. Poor neighborhoods...

I don't fully understand the details of charter schools, but I do know people are lining up to get in amd getting rejected because there aren't enough spots.

Jenks doesn't need more money. Broken arrow and Edmond don't need more money. Poor neighborhoods need it badly.

Rural schools need to be consolidated. I get that it will ruin property values in the towns that lose schools, but what is the greater good?

Stated in an interview with Sean Hanity on Tues afternoon. Feel free to listen to the podcast. You might learn something outside your liberal bubble.

My point was clear.

You know that is how it works right? Except local bond issues/levies can be approved locally... Jenks gets more because the citizens step up and pay more....

You don't do anything to save the environment and you are all for rich people getting more educated than poor people to keep the cycle of depression for minorities going.

You ought to run for congress as a republican.

For years now Oklahoma has had:

A republican governor;
A republican house
A republican senate
A republican Secretary of Education

@MegaPoke I know its early and the fluffers haven't even shown up for the shoot yet, but this was just getting good and "poof" you disappear. Why again can we not point to Oklahoma as a good example of conservative government?

Because Oklahoma doesn't have conservative government. Our state level politicians are part of the religious right and definitely not conservative.

First, what's the distinction?

Second, you know evangelicals came in hard for Trump? They're definitely a big part of Biff's administration. Rick Perry, Betsy Devoss, Jeff Sessions, all religious right. Betsy pushes faith-based charter schools. I don't know about his other nominees, but they definitely are. Pruitt. So why are those openly religious, evangelical republicans so much different than ours?
