Someone correct me if I am wrong, but I think there was conservative opposition to this pick which accounts for the 51-50 style vote.

Damn liberals in Oklahoma ruining education... SMH...
Dude keep living in the past... I have plenty to talk about in the here and now.
Our education system has been troubled for years, particularly in urban and rural areas where hypocritical liberal whites have left them begging for scraps for years.
Hey as long as we can build and invest millions in buildings, supplies, and materials to weight the scales in our kid's favor, who cares?
School vouchers for many of those kids is their only chance.
Yes, those Oklahoma liberals insisted on tax breaks for horizontal wells and less gross production tax here in Oklahoma.
For years now Oklahoma has had:
A republican governor;
A republican house
A republican senate
A republican Secretary of Education
and we're blaming liberals for education.
I'd go along with the conservative "voucher" narrative if it would work, bur it doesn't appear to be working any better than regular public schools. Maybe the system has worked out in some state I'm unaware of.
Ha! Who sets policy and budgets for education in your part of the world? I know who sets them in mine. I am willing to pay $18k in additional property taxes each year to support local schools - especially given the results.Been running things for years.
The blatant inequity in education cross the country is shameful.

If your local schools suck, a portion of the blame can go to Washington, but more should go to your state and local leaders as well as the community that won't provide adequate funding.
Mary F isn't a conservative, she's an idiot.
Besides, the turd was circling the bowl and long time before Republicans started running things.
Terrible choice. Really surprised that there were not more than 2 republican senators who had the balls (yes, I know the 2 were female) to go against the grain and vote against her.
Oh well, my daughter is a senior and my son only has 2 years of high school left. Maybe her changes won't eff things up for him too badly.
I had a great education growing up in the 80's.
Well have there been any conservatives in charge of Oklahoma's education lately? If not Mary, how about the House, Senate and Secretary of Education?
You mean like these:Tell me how wonderful the schools are in urban areas where you live.
What's the matter with you? Do you hate minorities?

Urban better than rural where I live. Work to do no doubt.
DVos does nothing to help...

My son had a great education in Oklahoma as well (he graduated 2 years ago). Of course, he wasn't hamstrung by poorly funded and operated urban schools.
But hey, as long as things are great for us and ours, what's the problem?
Education needs a disrupt. The system is broken top to bottom. We don't teach what's needed and we don't nurture the gifted.
We cater to morons instead of feeding intellects.
That's so backwards.

If she does help will you eat crow? Because let's be honest, no one has really helped up to this point.

Dude, if we improve education against measurable objectives then I will donate to the Devos statue fund.If she does help will you eat crow? Because let's be honest, no one has really helped up to this point.
Are you positing that race is the heart of the problem in education? Economic diversity is likely more relevant than racial, but go ahead and explain how "whiteness" impacts education...Please tell me you aren't comparing "so-white" Portland's urban areas with those of LA, Chicago, Atlanta, or other disproportionately minority urban center.

What does this mean? Sorry if I am dense, no idea what you are saying here...Shoe is on the other foot?
Yeah right, whitey.
Off your meds again?Betsy DeVos is going to permit you to remove your children from failing schools, who place indoctrination ahead of education, and instead send them to private schools.
The Department of Education is where the left plots their future, brainwashing the children with identity politics.
Giving parents the option to remove their children from the matrix is a grave and unimaginable threat to their future.
What does this mean? Sorry if I am dense, no idea what you are saying here...
You have pushed two points on here that have just been conclusively rebutted: Rural schools superior to urban and liberals are at fault. This "continue to starve education and start charter schools" ethos will be the third. The next time a conservative accuses liberals of being stubborn I'm going to point to this thread.
I am not ideologically opposed to charter schools, but their track record in Oklahoma hasn't been better. Some specific schools do better, some do worse. It's proven right here in your home state to not be a solution, but... maga I guess.

Not even David's executive platinum google status access, nor hollywood's diamond status google search skills, could find one of those posts.See if you can find a single positive post by anyone in the history of this board regarding the Oklahoma republican executive and legislature. Ever.
