Before he came on scene, I had shifted from generally trusting the government holistically to "trusting" the science side, FDC, CDC, NASA, etc. (FBI, DOJ, and State destroyed their credibility through the Trump term).
Well...let me tell you...if there was a WMD against the science departments at the Fed level, it was this guy and the incoherent and inconsistent babble that's come out of his mouth.
To be fair, I'm sure most rank and file are legit scientists and bureaucrats on the up and up, but those top level officials are political animals, and that is a huge fu cking disservice to anybody with a brain and the people they are supposed to serve.
How do you feel about masks and Covid vaccination? Seems to me that someone claiming to believe in biochemistry and data science would agree that both masks/vaccines are beneficial if the goal is to limit hospitalizations/deaths in this country.
The theater that's gone on extends well beyond basic mask and vaccination conversations. The failure to address all sides of any conversation, all while being DISMISSIVE of people discussing data or insight contrary to plan, has been atrocious. It's contrary to the pursuit of knowledge.
Biochemistry and data science aren't things I "believe in." They are fields of study grounded in math, knowledge, and findings that are tested, questioned, and tested again over countless iterations spanning decades. Data science is mostly just working with code and applying statistics to gain usable insight from the data.
Questioning is always, always, always welcome, and if a previously accepted position or finding is supplanted due to new insight via this ongoing, iterative process, then Perfect! The process is doing exactly what it's designed to do!!

Not disagreeing with any of your points, but that is a word salad heavy non-answer to my question. I'm sure it was intentional, though.
I stopped reading on those topics a long time ago and just live my life. I was 80% to this mindset by May/June 2020.
Where I ultimately land is that the vaccines mitigate severity of reaction and their usefulness correlate pretty closely with age, weight, or underlying conditions. It also is useful for peace of mind (mental health). I'm eager to see longer term studies and ongoing monitoring of possible side effects.
The mask conversation is tired. Even if they are being worn, there are countless things going on with individuals that disrupt any mitigation the *proper* ones offer.
I'm not a proponent of trying to "limit hospitalizations/deaths" at this stage (nearly 2 years in) and with this variant. "If it saves just one life" thinking opens up a person for all manner of irrational thinking. Hell, it's that type of framing that, over time, placated a German society to sit by while a madman created worldwide upheaval.
No it was not intentional, asshole. I was typing my response and paused to walk my dogs. This can be a lengthy conversation, and I dont want that, so I'm inclined to be as succinct as possible and provide my high level thinking. Im not inclined to dive into every little detail that makes this shit a quagmire. I've avoided these topics like the plague due to how braindead and emotional people are over it and prefer to take shots at those in power when low hanging fruit is so obvious.

I remember the initial guidance. Wash hands, take off and dispose of mask, wash hands, put on new mask. I’m sure following the protocol that surgeons use and using N95 masks works very well, but what we are doing now is theater, IMO. And it’s been almost 2 years and hospitals haven’t adjusted.

Well this is 100% what I don't want to be a part of. Conversations that interest me are those that follow a scientific method pursuit to solving a problem, which includes a willingness to challenge and test assumptions, update knowledge, and put down emotions.
There's nothing wrong with being wrong at the individual level and being willing to update beliefs.
Accountability of people in power starts at the grassroot level. Society has evolved to living in echo chambers and those in power/politics dictate what is to be believed. Instead the grassroots should interact with, enjoy, and learn from itself, leading to societal edification, and resulting in dictating up to those in power.

What a hard lockdown in Australia looks like... this was a few months ago.
Watching the bowl game.....watching the athletes and coaches tell everyone to "go get your clot shots"......They have ZERO clue IMO they are recommending a very deadly and totally experimental mRNA shot.
