The big boys in the Big 12 take it on the chin this year with only four allocated spots each at 197 and 285 (after getting 13, 14, and 11 combined the last three years).

But the big losers this year are the re-aligned conferences.

EIWA/Ivy loses 5 slots combined, while the PAC12 drops 7 spots.

That is in spite of the allocated pool being larger this year.

The ACC was the big net winner this year.

Note: The net change number for EIWA is the net change for EIWA+Ivy.

I do not understand why there are more than 32 qualifiers per weight. 32 man bracket, 32 qualifiers. The math is so simple even the average US high school senior could handle it.

I asked someone who used to work the scorer's table at NCAA for years. His recollection was that 33 was the average number of entrants before they capped it and they did not want to decrease the opportunities.

Based on that, I think (though not positive) it was capped at 33 in 1999. The eight years prior to that the average bracket size was 32.9 with a low of 32.5 in 1997 and a high of 33.4 in 1991.
