Border security is a priority.
The Wall and Border Security aren’t necessary synonymous.

“Elevating discourse”
Is that so?
You know the OSU Alumni Association sends out a newsletter frequently containing job listings. If cooking is your career, that's great. If not, then I'm telling you this as a courtesy.

Agreed, but the wall is the only actual solution proposed to reducing illegal immigration. Everything else has just been sound bites and word salad.
No it isn’t.
It’s just the one you prefer.
Do we all agree that border security is a priority?
Yes or no?
https://www.politifact.com/florida/...ists-groups-besides-isis-crossing-us-mexico-/For example, there is no evidence that terrorists are crossing the southern border,
I'm not sure if 90% is accurate, but this is definitely true. What about human trafficking?more than 90% of illegal drugs are being smuggled into the country via legal points of entry.
Not to mention the MS-13 gang members nabbed crossing the border who are terrorizing neighborhoods throughout the US. Terrorists come in many forms not just the ISIS form.
Yes, border security is important. That does not mean that a wall is the only way to improve security, or that it is the best option. Personally, I'm not totally opposed to the idea, but, I also don't believe most of the rhetoric as to why we "need" the wall. For example, there is no evidence that terrorists are crossing the southern border, and more than 90% of illegal drugs are being smuggled into the country via legal points of entry.
I would be in favor of a "wall"/improved fencing in some areas, where it would make the work of border patrol agents much easier, and could live with a continuous "wall" if it made sense economically and could be shown to not have significant negative effect on the environment/wildlife migration.

Really? Documented crossings by folks having ties to terrorist organizations is sketchy? It's certainly not the thousands Trump claims, but thinking it hasn't, doesn't, and can't happen is seriously, seriously naive or blinded by narrative.Sketchy

What if it makes it more difficult and increases the chance that they'll get caught while trying? Is there a downside to that?If they want to get into our country, a wall is not going to keep them out. It might cause them to change their tactics somewhat, but they will find their way into the U.S.
Any discussion of protecting our thousands of miles of open coastline? Or has FOX decided that terrorists are afraid of water?
Who pissed in your wheaties today?
Good point. They'll probably hitch rides with those guys carrying North Korean nukes in the back of Toyota Tundras. Since a barrier on the southern border doesn't protect against the Somali SEAL Team landing in North Carolina, we should scrap plans for that. Maybe we should be thinking about a dome like that Stephen King book had. Can't a terrorist simply take a boat onto unprotected shoreline? Do we need to stop that danger, too?

I'm not convinced it will make a difference. Where there is a will there is a way. Those guys are smart and motivated.
Are you sure that those guys are just walking across the border? Or, are they entering this country using someone else's identity papers? Are they using tunnels that have been dug under border fencing? If we build a wall, will it cause a false sense of security along certain portions of it, where they can just climb over?
IMO, "It might help" is not good enough, and is certainly a far cry from Trump's description of the situation. It seems like there are other non-wall based solutions that might help reduce infiltration by MS-13 members.
Have you looked at the statistics where barriers have been put up? Why do people live in gated neighborhoods? Lock their doors? Do you lock your doors on your house and car? If so, why? Do you lock your vet office? Why would you do that when, as you say, "Where there is a will there is a way. Those guys are smart and motivated."I'm not convinced it will make a difference. Where there is a will there is a way. Those guys are smart and motivated.
Been, they come across in a variety of ways. Why would a wall cause a false sense of security? Nobody is proposing that CBP stop doing what they do because there's a barrier. Are you sure that those guys are just walking across the border? Maginot Line, part II.
It's insane. Like a terrorist couldn't simply take a boat instead of walking through a desert. The most basic, basic common sense considerations are out the window with born followers, they just swallow whatever alarmist messaging is given them.
Do you hear what you are saying?
The wall/barrier isn't supposed to prevent a well-oiled tank invasion from Mexico.
You aren't speaking in "basic common sense" ways.
If the objective is to prevent terrorists from entering, won't they simply enter on the open shoreline? Am I missing something there?
I dunno. Those cross Atlantic skiffs coming from Afghanistan are certainly a real threat. I hear they have a complete network of floating marinas to help get them here. The wall funnels these illegals. If a wall goes up we then transfer the agent walking where there used to be open border to the shoreline. Boom more protection on the shoreline due to trumps wall.
