For Anyone That Supports Open Borders

Put yourself, your wife or your daughter in the position of Lanken Riley. She fought off a brutal assault/rape for 18 agonizing minutes before the Biden Administration inspired illegal hit her in the head repeatedly with a rock crushing her head in. This brave young woman would be alive today if Democrat voters had not gone along with Democrats open border policy. I beg of all the Democrat voters, please revisit your support of Democrat policies like this, your life or one of your loved one's life may one day be in the same danger Lanken Riley's life was.

Hail Storm

My neighborhood of about 125 houses was hit with a monstrous hail storm about two months ago. Since that time there have been dozens of roofing crews replacing all the damage. The crews usually have 10-12 guys, virtually every one of them Spanish speaking Mexicans. I wonder how many of them are in the country illegally. If MAGA gets its way and deports them all it leaves the question of who will shingle our roofs in the future? Who will mow our lawns and tend our gardens? Surely all those illegals working in our neighborhoods are not murderers and rapists? It would be absolutist to think that.

FIRESIDE CHAT #1 – TCU: The Rise and Fall of the Other Gary

Welcome gentlemen and @Wally12 to our first fireside chat. As an intelligent being known for outside-the-box thinking, I have decided that it would do the Corral some good to initiate intellectually-stimulating conversations from time to time as we continue to move forward together as galactic drifters in earth suits.

Today’s discussion focuses on Gary Patterson’s tenure at TCU. How it started. Where it went. And what lessons can be drawn from it.

Like Mike Gundy, Gary Patterson was promoted from coordinator to head coach after the prior head coach left for greener pastures—Patterson replaced Dennis Franchione who left for Alabama. Before becoming head coach, TCU’s previous four seasons had gone like this:
  • 2000 = 10-2
  • 1999 = 8-4
  • 1998 = 7-5
  • 1997 = 1-10
In his twenty-ish years at TCU, Gary went 180-83 with a win percentage of ~70%. He had most of his success while TCU was a member of the Mountain West Conference, particularly through 2009-11. In fact, if you compare wins per season between TCU and OSU, the two schools walked a similar path until 2018.

The beginning of the end for Gary was in 2018. Besides winning only seven games that season, Gary was hit with a lawsuit by a player for allegedly threatening the player to play through an injury. Patterson also became a major critic of updated NCAA transfer rules that year stating publicly “as I tell people all the time, at your house, you’re going to allow your 17-year-old, 18-year-old to run your household? Let them pay your bills, that’s what you do? No. You don’t do that. So why are we putting our jobs in jeopardy because of an 18-year-old? That’s stupid.”

In 2018, TCU’s team defense was good—#2 in the league in avg. pts/game—but the offense struggled and finishing second-to-last in the league.

The team returned in 2019 with freshman quarterback Max Duggan. Although they went 5-7, six of their seven losses were by a combined 30 points—the “Cardiac Horned Frogs…who always end up dead on the operating table” if you will.

2020 was supposed to be the bounce back year. Due to poor performances on the offensive side of the ball, Patterson hired his friend and former Minnesota coach Jerry Kill as a special assistant for the offense before the 2020 season. He also reunited offensive coordinators Sonny Cumbie and Doug Meacham. TCU’s recruiting class that year was ranked third in the Big XII and No. 24 nationally, per the 247Sports Composite Team Rankings. Still, the situation did not improve. TCU won only 6 games. It was becoming clear that the well was poisoned and culture was approaching an all-time low. The 2021 season was just more of the same. Gary resigned in November before being terminated as head coach.

When you start to think about it, there are many similarities between Patterson and Gundy:
  • Patterson is the winningest coach in TCU history.
  • Patterson Win % = 69.6%; Gundy Win % = 68.3%
  • Patterson Bowl Record = 11-6; Gundy Bowl Record = 11-6
  • His greatest season (2010) was led by a red-headed senior quarterback eventually drafted by an NFL team located in the nation’s rust belt.
  • Patterson fought his own battle of alleged racism in 2020 for pulling what would later be known as a "Cale." In the aftermath, Patterson apologized.
  • Towards the end of his coaching tenure, Gary’s defenses—what he had become known for—regressed.
  • By the very end, Patterson became known as a coach who lacked the ability, or desire, to form relationships and communicate with his players.
What lessons can we draw? I think a few stand out:
  • #1 – Evolve or die. A team who chooses to go about business the same way they always have will be left in the dust. That philosophy is not only a failure in the NIL game, but also on the field.
  • #2 – There is Life on the Other Side. Parting with a historically successful coach can lead to success.
  • #3 – Where did all of the fun go? Fanbases are fickle. The longer a coach wins 9-11 games a year without playing for "the big one," the less fun it becomes.
  • #4 – Two Roads Diverged. Mike is walking down the exact same path Gary Patterson took. The question at this point is “when does it become too late to turn around and go back?” I don’t think we’re there, but it’s much closer than Mike probably believes.

NS OSU HTM

School of Hospitality and Tourism Management among best in U.S.

Monday, November 11, 2024

  • The School of Hospitality and Tourism Management at Oklahoma State University has a long history of success, and the program recently earned a landmark milestone as a top-10 program in the United States.

The school, housed in the Spears School of Business, is ranked eighth in the United States (up from No. 11 a year ago) and comes in at 22nd in the world (the same ranking as last year) in the 2024 edition of ShanghaiRanking’s Global Ranking of Academic Subjects.

“The program is committed to the tradition of excellence and continues to be one of the premier academic units in the world,” said Dr. Brij Thapa, professor and Carl and Marilynn Thoma Distinguished Chair who serves as the head of HTM. “Integrating high-quality publications and/or compelling practical insights, faculty are focused on identifying solutions to persistent challenges and expanding the knowledge base for industry, governments, communities and academia. The school intends to prioritize the land-grant mission to foster public impact research and become a key voice advocating for positive change within and beyond the state.”

The School of Hospitality and Tourism Management is the highest-ranked program at OSU in the global rankings. Other best-ranked subjects are sociology, which placed in the top 75, and civil engineering and veterinary medicine, both ranked in the top 150. Additionally, management placed in the top 200 globally, while physics, agricultural sciences and political sciences placed in the top 300.

The Chinese-based organization has been publishing the list since 2009, along with an academic ranking of the world’s universities. Its initial purpose was to see how Chinese universities ranked against the world’s best, but the list has become a measuring stick for many universities and programs around the globe.

The 2024 Global Ranking of Academic Subjects contains rankings of universities in 55 subjects across natural sciences, engineering, life sciences, medical sciences and social sciences. More than 1,900 out of 5,000 universities across 96 countries and regions are listed in the rankings.

The GRAS rankings use a range of objective academic indicators and third-party data to measure the performance of world universities in respective subjects, including world-class faculty, world-class output, high-quality research, research impact and international collaboration.

Gaetzgate -- How a strange nomination might play out

Gaetzgate -- How a strange nomination might play out

By Bill Hansmann

Since Marco Rubio's nomination as Secretary of State is almost certain to be approved, Florida governor Ron DeSantis will select an individual to fill Rubio's seat. This selection will not occur until the nomination process is complete. Rubio is unlikely to resign from the Senate until he is approved as Secretary of State, unlike Gaetz's immediate resignation from the House of Representatives, prompting a rapid replacement to prevent damaging the fragile House majority. At that time, and at Donald Trump's request, DeSantis could name Gaetz as senator. The Democrats, celebrating the defeat of Gaetz's nomination, would suddenly find themselves looking at Senator Matt Gaetz -- a look they would find both unpleasant and unamusing. Trump may well be playing 3-D chess with the nomination process while the opposition is staring at a checkerboard. If this scenario proves to be the case, it will be long remembered for its impudence and audacity.

If the Gaetz nomination goes through, DeSantis will pick a senator other than the new attorney general. If the President-elect is given to a bit of nepotism, he certainly could do worse than his daughter-in-law, Lara Trump. She distinguished herself as co-chair of the Republican National Committee and has hinted strongly that politics is in her future. Other possible Rubio replacements would include DeSantis' chief of staff, James Uthmeir, a not unprecedented move that would allow DeSantis, out of office by 2026, to step in to be elected to that seat. Also, 13th District congresswoman Anna Paulina Luna -- a move likely to be popular among the state's and nation's Hispanic population, and the solid 16th District Congressman Vern Buchanon would be considered.

DeSantis could, of course, nominate himself for the seat, but that is highly unlikely. He wants to continue to gain executive experience and national attention as Florida's governor until his term is complete.

I believe that when the dust has settled, Gaetz will be attorney general, and the new Florida senator will be Representative Byron Daniels, a favorite of the President-elect. Daniels will make an excellent senator, and President Trump will find a way to make it up to Ron DeSantis.

New Conference Rival

Since OU has stunk it up for the last decade I feel like we need a new rival. I'm kind of feeling UNI, lol. As much as I respect Schwab as a coach, his fastball brick throws and yelling at Coach Smith antics were kinda lame in Stillwater the last couple of trips. And they beat us, so I dont like that. Obviously, Missou is in the mix as well. So what say you - who should be the team we love to hate when they wrestle us?

Dan Is Going To Be Pissed

He can't stand Trump and thinks he's a blowhard but with just his election Israel is preparing a ceasefire with Lebanon. Guys not even in office yet and is making the world a more peaceful place.

Trump Shames Harris; Offers To Pay Off $20 Mn Campaign Debt After Crushing Defeat

President-elect Donald Trump trolled Kamala Harris’ debt-ridden losing presidential campaign, urging the GOP to do “whatever we can do to help them.”

“I am very surprised that the Democrats, who fought a hard and valiant fight in the 2020 Presidential Election, raising a record amount of money, didn’t have lots of $’s left over,” Trump posted on X Saturday evening.
“Now they are being squeezed by vendors and others. Whatever we can do to help them during this difficult period, I would strongly recommend we, as a Party and for the sake of desperately needed UNITY, do,” he continued, “We have a lot of money left over in that our biggest asset in the campaign was “Earned Media,” and that doesn’t cost very much. MAKE AMERICA GREAT AGAIN!
