Here are some of my thoughts regarding our program, in general.
1. We have a good to very good program. We do not have a great or elite program.
2. Not sure how we lose regional games at home when the stakes are so high. Florida barely had a winning season, but were good enough to beat us twice. Perhaps teams in the Southeast have better programs because of location, weather, etc.
3. We have only ONE National Championship in our history. We should have had several more when Ward was our coach. How we lost to Georgia against their freshman pitcher is beyond me. He only threw slow curve balls.
4. We rarely have had great pitching. If we had a few more good ones in the Ward years, we would have won several titles. Thank God we scored 10 runs a game because our pitching staff gave up a lot of runs.
5. I’m not sure if we are any better since we opened the new ballpark. It should have helped us more than it has.
6. I’m not sure if Holiday is the best solution. Maybe he’s the best we can get.
7. I guess we need to be glad we have a very good program, and leave it at that. Great programs win more than one National Championship in 70 years.
