And the hit pieces for Florida, i.e. DeSantis are starting. If you look at the chart though New York, Illinois, Ohio & Pennsylvania are all also in the same category. Probably as an aggregate population more than Florida.
"Erik Olson, a health and food expert at the environmental group Natural Resources Defense Council, said the EPA was 'trying to do the right thing' by using its survey to direct lead pipe funds to states that need it most. But he called Florida's figure 'a big surprise.' Olson said the state told his group in 2021 that it doesn't track lead service lines. The NRDC's estimate for the state was about 200,000.

Olson said the Florida number is puzzling because lead pipes were most frequently installed in the decades before Florida's population rapidly grew.

'We look forward to hearing an explanation,' Olson said.

The EPA said it extrapolated from water providers' responses to come up with the state-level estimates. The location of many lead pipes are still unknown and the EPA said states like Florida had a lot of water lines that were either made of an unknown material or lead."

Wonder who Erik Olson & The Natural Resources Defense Council is? Any guesses? Good thing you ask.

Damn, I melted lead and made my own sinkers when I was a kid; sure didn't hurt me.o_O
Me and my kid brother use to pick up lead wheel balancers off the roads. We then took them home and melted the lead in spoons over mom's gas kitchen stove. Once the lead melted, we dipped the spoon in water and had nice little oval shaped sinkers for fishing. It made that burning smell in the kitchen and our mother became torqued! On top of that, she was always afraid we'd burn ourselves. But we never did.

I had a sinker mold that made several weights up to 1 oz.

Lead AND a gas stove? We demand you jump off a cliff in the name of environmental justice.

1.1 Million pipes? Shouldnt that be 'feet of pipe'? Or should it be a count of the impacted population? This article feels like a trick of the statistician. For example: does this mean a single pipe running to an apartment housing 200 families counts the same as a single pipe running to an individual's home and thus impact 4 people? Would that make a 200 house neighborhood count 200x times more than a NY apartment housing the same number of people? I'm sorry, but we've long since proven that the media (both sides) will take stats and twist them in whatever manner necessary to sell the desired narrative.

The homeowner's premiums in Florida are pretty wild, from what I hear. Zero input or action from DeSantos in response.

Anyone in Florida confirm or deny?

I’m not a Democrat, but I’ll lie anyway.

Wait, you aren't an expert on brass too? 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣

Lead is added to brass to make it easier to machine and to reduce corrosion. The federal limit to call a brass fitting "lead free" is now 0.25% since 2011. Prior to that the limit was 8%. I used to machine brass, aluminum alloys, steel, iron (mainly routing) and manganese bronze. There's literally no service brass in existence that doesn't contain lead.

All I've seen are social media posts of some really exorbitant premiums. Not going on with you and around you, huh?

Don't forget about the solder. Not everyone is using those fancy compression joints yet.

Most modern lead free plumbing solder doesn't contain any lead. It's mostly tin/copper. If you're using leaded solder or electric solder for your plumbing, you're doing it wrong.

"Doing it wrong" is my mantra with plumbing. About to get wet with pex this weekend. Will see how that goes.

Federal disaster aid is socialism? Climate change causes hurricanes? I've got a few questions.

To be honest, I'd rather a politician ask for federal aid for a natural disaster than ask for federal aid for disasters their dumbass policies have caused. Just sayin.
I'm guessing you need to get in line. So many questions for the con-servatives.
