Trump hasn't taken office yet but after a simple phone call has the Mexican President reversing course and stopping these supposedly unstoppable illegal migrant caravans. Amazing what happens when a President is a real leader and uses the tools available to them to protect the country. The mere mention of placing tariffs on Mexico and Canada has them gratefully working with the US instead of against it. Gee what a novel concept.

Authoritarian measures always work. Until they quit working. But the authoritarianism remains.

What is authoritarian about threatening another country that is working to harm the US with implementing tariffs on the goods they export to the US?

Trump is using an economic measure to cure a political problem. Tariffs are harmful to the country that institutes them. Trump's tariffs are harmful to American consumers. So while he make have "cured" one political problem he is creating another one in its place, causing harm to workers and citizens on his own country. His "solution" to the new problem he has created is to offer subsidies to the industries his tariffs have harmed. So the American citizen gets a double whammy: relative price increases on products affected by the tariffs coupled with paying taxes to subsidize the people his tariffs have hurt. He seems to think Mexico and Canada should solve his problem rather than solve it himself.

First Trump hasn't implemented the tariff, he merely threatened to implement one and it has both the Mexican President and that moron Canadian PM immediately changing course. By the way that is what's called a political solution to what you refer to as a political problem.
