WrestleStat Rankings for 12/22/2015

Not sure Kaid should be ahead of Clark but I guess he does have a better win over Brewer. Is Collica down so low due to missing time with his injury? It has been said Jo Smith could go to 149. Is there any thought he could go there if Anthony's ankle doesn't improve? Does Anthony have a redshirt? If John thinks he needs to pull Joseph's shirt but wants him to have the best chance to win the championship is it at 149?

Collica does have shirt available, but not this year.

Nolan Boyd #28? This is on a par with ranking Kaid Brock #2 or Joe Smith #4. Relying on statistics will do this every time.
Wrestlestats Flo Win Intermat
125 Klimara #2 #4 #11 5
133 Brock #2 #11 #10 10
141 Heil #1 #1 #1 1
149 Collica #28 #9 #9 #12
157 Joe Smith #4 NR NR NR

174 Crutchmer 2 1 1 2
184 Boyd #28 16 NR 18
Rogers #25 NR NR NR
197 Schafer #43 NR NR NR
285 Austin Marsden 5 4 5 5
Wrestlestats skewed from other polls at 133,149,157,184.
I understand in Smith's case you are projecting that he may not be a redshirt but still to have him jump to #4 is IMO not justified although appreciated. At 133 Kaid Brock at #2 is not justified based on two matches. At 184 you have a non-starter ranked ahead of our starter and other polls do not agree. At 157 Collica is penalized far more than any of he other polls do due to injury.
Not to say that I would not take the rankings at 133 and 157 at the end of the yearand the rest of your rankings are about what th other polls show.

Collica is at #22, his loss to Short (Minnie) is hurting him, although I agree, shouldn't hurt him THAT much.

Also, the rankings engine ways undefeated wrestlers WAY too high....it's one of those things where a tweak will make other ranking scenarios out of whack. Honestly, once everyone/most wrestlers have at least 1 loss, then they'll look even better.

That is literally my only beef with the rankings engine so far, wrestlers that are undefeated, and wrestlers that don't have ANY wins. It seems those guys don't end up getting ranked very well.

Not sure these are current but informative nonetheless. The question would be is Collicas injury season ending? Just sitting out the rest of the year doesn't work. So you might not know if you should apply until the end of the season.

Medical Hardship Requirements
To be eligible for a medical hardship waiver, a student-athlete has to meet the following criteria:

  • The student-athlete must suffer the injury during one of their four seasons of college competition or during the senior year of high school.
  • The injury must be incapacitating. That means it must be a season-ending injury.
  • The injury must occur prior to the start of the second half of the season.
  • The student-athlete must not have competed in more than 30% of the season or three contests, whichever is greater.

djb, that's in large measure because what happened last season, in my ranking, means precisely the same amount as what happened in the first ever wrestling match, between Adam and Eve: zero. Everybody started fresh on November 1st, and therefore, my ranking doesn't care that iMar was a national champ last year.

iMar's strength of schedule so far this season has been extremely suspect, which is the primary cause for his low rating. Midlands should take care of that, with both #1 Gantt and #3 Ian Miller expected to be in the field.
