Haven’t noticed they put there own spin on everything? They have the best and only wrestling program ever…they won’t be rooting for OSU/DT like last year all because Carl brought in a guy to compete with Ryder so he bounces..now he’s scared and not good? Hahaha I use to enjoy there wrestling board. Its brutal the last few weeks.

It’s mostly the Rivals page, but the Wrestling subreddit is insufferable. Anything said against Cael or the NLWC RTC is met with vitriol in the responses.

Get so irrationally angry when you bring up that RTCs and how PSU uses them is a very huge gray area when it comes to NCAA wrestling?

What other sports would this model fly? The answer is none.

"Get so irrationally angry when you bring up that RTCs"

Honestly, where are you seeing that? Since PSU has been doing it for 15 years, I think it's safe to say there is no more gray area, so why would anyone be angry? I thought the concept of RTCs was now "settled science".

Can you show us an example of this anger?

The RTC was definitely operating in a gray area when they first started it. However, now that the NCAA basically doesn't exist and programs are doing whatever they want, I view the RTC is relatively safe and uncontroversial.
What PSU did was against NCAA regs. NCAA chose not to enforce with sanctions. Now it’s above board, doubt we’ll see anything happen. Retroactive sanctions would sure be juicy though.

No comment on fans being fans. That’s part of it. I always try to lean towards humility and enthusiasm - love my Pokes, but it’s also not that big a deal that I need to engage too much with other fan bases or try to win online arguments.

What was "against NCAA regs"? What did Penn State do differently than other RTCs at the time? (Besides of course, better funding and better coaching.) Sounds like sour grapes.

Good news for Cowboys fans is that DT fully understands the value of a strong RTC.

Oh deer lowered. Now all the Iowa fans are going to be over here reminding you of the out of state HS seniors and grey shirts that were paid to join the Nittany Lion RTC prior to wrestling for PSU or even sniffing a senior national team.

Future employment enticements to recruits and student athletes. Non-NCAA sanctioned coaches and athletes working with and overseeing college athletes.

If LSU baseball setup a minor league team effectively within their college program, and utilized it to recruit and develop their athletes or the Alabama football team did so… The NCAA would of shut them down and it would be an SI cover story.

It’s all basically now so it’s a moot point.

No sour grapes. Anyone can look stuff up for themselves assuming the old regs are still available. I actually read the NCAA regs in 2014ish (yes, as dry and legalese as you might expect) and compared them to what I was seeing in interviews and whatnot. Yes good coaching and funding, but also retaining and attracting student athletes by treating in a more professional manner than what was allowed for D1 student athletes at the time. I'm not going to stand on details because I honestly don't remember, it's been over 10 years and its not something I think about often lol

"Sounds like sour grapes." exactly what blood bloods say about buying players with money before NIL. Shady before, alright now.
