Context: I purchased a firearm suppressor early this year. As part of this I must submit my request to the BATFE via a firearms trust and form 4. Part of that is informing the county sheriff of my intent, getting fingerprinted, and submitting a passport photo. The 'application' comes with a 200 dollar fee.
The paperwork was submitted on April 31st of this year. The 200 dollar check was cashed by the BATFE on May 8th. So they are doing a background check on all the people in the trust (myself, wife and son). The worst thing on my record is a speeding ticket. I'm not worried about the outcome of the review. I called the BATFE service line and asked the status of my application. They said it was in pending status but that they were still processing applications from last October and November.
Question: How long in your opinion does the federal bureaucracy have until they are violating my 2nd amendment rights? I mean, is a year too long? What if they never get to it? Where's that line in your mind. Is there an obligation on the government's part to process them in a timely manner?
This question can be extrapolated to other rights as well? What if I register to vote but it doesn't get processed in time for me to actually vote? How about registering for a permit to have a parade, or a marriage license? How long is too long?
