Shrum?

They should make it legal for anybody to open a casino. Let’s see how bad that pisses off the tribes. I hate casinos, but if we’re gonna have them, let’s make it fair.

I mean they can but every casino in Oklahoma is on on Trust Land except for the two Horsetracks. Oklahoma would never allow that to happen though because they would lose all money from Tribal Casinos. The Compact is to keep out other companies from Vegas etc.

The number one reason Tribes use casinos is to fund their Healthcare for their citizens. During Covid many tribal facilities opened up services temporarily to non tribal citizens. They gave free vaccines, but also COVID-19 convalescent plasma therapy and many other services that they paid for themselves. Tribes also use that money to fix roads that ODOT won't touch, and also donate money to Oklahoma Public schools for all Oklahomans.

Believe it or not Hastings Hospital where our second med school is located needs that money to operate.

Which is my biggest problem with that lack of support for the education of our people whether higher ed or career tech. Really no excuse for it other than some mindset that’s anti-intellectual or anti-training which isn’t good for the state’s future imo. Regardless, it shows a lack of care for the state’s future development and a lack of investment in people that pay the taxes in the first place. Proof people vote against their self-interest often allowing the status quo. We excel in setting our sights low for ourselves and we get what we shoot for generally.

We’re well known across the nation and have travelers actively avoiding our state due to toll roads everywhere costing tourism dollars and sales tax revenues from lodging, food, and gasoline sales lost. But we gloat we get out of state people to help pay for our roads but forget it’s a tax on our citizens too! But legislators say boy just look at that rainy day surplus of 3 Billion dollars!

That savings is great if our rankings in comparison with other states in quality of life, education, healthcare, infrastructure investment etc. didn’t have us closer to fiftieth in everything than near the top!
Lol…I mean I have to call major bullshit that people avoid Oklahoma because of toll roads.

And anonymous X post is about as reliable as an anonymous post on this message board.
Not that it makes him any more reliable, but there’s a “Grey Ghost” who calls in to Robert Allen’s show sometimes. Those amounts seem a bit far fetched though…

Agreed, I would have expected to hear from colleagues on campus had 2 people pulled a pledge of $150M. Those are HUGE gifts that rarely happen.

Stirring up more shit..

I think a lot of oSu folks really have an affinity for Shrum, she loves the university and deserves to have that acknowledged. Unfortunately, as often happens in these situations, there will be different camps that will find all kinds of underlying motivations for this decision and most will be wrong. Along with that will come all kinds of stories that are either skewed or completely untrue, who knows the accuracy of this individuals information, but I'm highly skeptical.

The next president will have stronger academic credentials because that's what every dean on the campus is going to demand.

Ryan’s an idiot. Guy is the epitome of swampy and political. As a parent I get a damn email proclamation from this douche bag at least once a week. I have never paid any attention to any previous superintendent and this guy is in the news every other day.
What is your definition of "swampy?"

I think Walter’s is off the rails at times. But I’ll say this for him. He got Tulsa PS’s off their rear ends. It was never going to make progress under the former superintendent. He held their feet to the fire and they are finally getting some traction. It’s an impossible task, but there is movement.

I admire someone that is willing to take on everybody with no fear.

What did he do? Throw Bibles in there?

You know, if I was a governor who wanted to be the president of one of the state’s major universities, I’d probably start by distancing myself from the idiot I put in charge of public education, who everyone in any way associated with public education hates… 🤔

As I said, he’s a handful at times. But there’s two sides to every story. Wife was a teacher for 17 years. And she’s as critical of the system as anyone.

You do realize Stitt didn't "put Walters in charge" of anything ? He was elected and will be again.

Walter’s is disruptive. Whether that’s good or bad depends. But as is true with Trumps agenda to disrupt the spending the govt has created it is good or bad depending on which side of the fence your on. And whether your job depends on it. Government doesn’t produce anything. It’s a user of capital. Unless you count dependency as producing something.

Were you under the assumption that government was a business?
