I think cognitive dissonance is at play here. It's not really real until someone you know or someone in your town has it.

Today, around 1 my dad was talking about how Craig County had no confirmed diagnosed. Then at 5, they did. Then at 10 I saw this (Tommy was one of my junior high coaches)

"Please keep my mom and dad, Tommy Earl Combs, in your prayers. He has been ill for several days and was diagnosed with Covid-19 last night. He is currently in St. Francis hospital, but cannot have any visitors. My mom, Janet Combs, has cared for him this whole week and they decided it was best to admit him today. She had to drive him there and basically leave him at the hospital. Just pray for her also as she has been exposed, and needs rest. Thanks for the prayers!"

Normal, everyday guy. Around 70 years old.

Dad and I just had a conversation this weekend about the guy, in fact.
